AWWWWW look at the little packer.....
Working on the driveway..
make sure they compact that gravel a ways past the edge of the concrete. otherwise your driveway will be in many peices quickly.
90% of people form the driveway before ever putting in gravel or packing. Never had a issue yet, always do it that way, unless there is a LOT of fill go to in. Then put in a bit before forming. If it's done right won't ever be a issue, you can pack within 1" of the form. And as long as you slope the gravel properly, it will not fall out from under the pad.
And that looks like sand to me, packing it is completely useless. So stupid how most builders use it, there is a reason most of their driveways are done within a year or two.
The forecast is awesome for the next bit for building ...not so much for sledding:d:d:d
90% are doing it wrong.
whats wrong with sand? its one of the best materials to build on
Sand is terrible for a driveway, it doesn't pack. You can use a big roller like that, and take your foot and still kick it up no problem. Try that with recycled concrete, or road crush, won't happen, because it packs hard as a rock and will not go anywhere. I mean sand is fine for a filler but not a base. Only speaking for outside concrete, nothing else. There is a reason parking lots, roads, etc are not put on sand also though
Not wrong if I can personally see driveways done 20 years ago with this method that look like the day they were poured. Nothing will happen to the edges, there is a reason you put rebar in so that when the ground shifts a bit, the whole pad stays together. A tiny void in the edge will not do anything to a proper pad.
Done enough driveways to know what is right and what isn't. Never ever replaced one that cracked all up because it wasn't done properly. Replaced 100's done wrong though.....
Heck there is some people who still think mesh is right for driveways......
We went with a good crush under the basement floor for packing ability and drainage...water has a hard time flowing through sand...our garage pad and driveway will both be crush also...15mm rebar everywhere.
