Arff, any reason they aren't using tyvec under the siding? Who is the siding company, I could use a few more quotes.

Trades are still too busy, hard to get people to return calls or show up when they say they will. Still getting quotes to fix the original framers screw ups. Not sure how they build houses for a living, maybe the big companies don't notice the floor joists are unlevel by 7/16th of an inch over 4 feet and windows are out by 5 feet!!!!:nono:

Looks like I might have to pull all the floor trusses next week myself and fix.:realmad:

Was going to ask about the paper myself. My neighbour does siding and they have not used tar paper for years now. He does not know of many companies that still use tar paper. Interesting.

I am not sure myself.
Encore hired the siding guy, he works by himself. I can ask him about the tar paper. I have watched him the last few days and his work looks good.

But then I know SFA about house building..only know how to put them out when they are burning:eek:

98% compaction against a basement wall? You better prey your concrete walls are perfectly strong and lots of rebar or you'll be redoing them. That is way more compaction then i'd ever dream of putting for that. With all those corners it would help. But i'd still be scared regardless. And the cost, you'll be there for days backfilling because you can only do so little at once. Ya it won't settle though.

Hell, that is all the city specs for their sidewalks.......

It will take two days to back fill...a ton of rebar went in to insure we are good to go. The idea is that the basement slab and main floor will provide the stability to complete the 98% compression. Walls are STRONG and cured...deck going on today - Sunday, basement Monday - Wednesday'ish...back fill end of next week.

These taken today:

Yesterday at the end of the day the siding was complete except for the hole for drywall entry.

They have me bent over the barrel and they forgot too apply the lube. Phoned a few places, because i am in the country they says thats why it's so much. You have too have a fire hydrant close by. I am 15 km too the nearest fire hall. So if anyone has any good tips i would appreciate it, don't wanna pay them $8600 for construction ins if i don't have too.

I would keep looking, your build insurance shouldn't cost more than a regular policy. There are tons of homes that are more than 15 Km from a fire hall, and wouldn't pay that much for a regular policy.

Mine is through TD Meloche Monnex.

i'm 7 km from the firehall in the country, and my builders insurance was $600 per month. and i also made the mistake of not telling them right away. they weren't overly thrilled, but of well. thanks goodness i wasn't over the 8 km mark, it would have been $800 per month, and that's after looking at several different places.

I live 10 ft away from the new build, so checking it is easy for me!!:d

One of the hazards of being your own GC, dealing with trades.

i GC'd my own place too. and sub's are a pain in the AZZ to say the least!!!!!!!!

and all your homes are looking pretty sweet
