Hopefully it burns off a pile of the old growth forest...

Jasper has always been a fire hazard,,, my Gramps said that the Steam train would roll threw town and the place would be on fire ...

Steam trains burnt down alot of places over the years...

Hopefully it dosen't burn down the town,,, Jasper is a nice place when theres no tourist around...

Looks like the big campgrounds, like Whistlers and Wapiti are safe for now. But Athabasca Falls and Horseshoe lake are right in the middle of it, the cliffs at the lake used to be fun to dive from and it was nice swimming on a hot day. Probably won't be the same.

Climate terrorist is the new term for these arsonists. These are the ones that started them last year. Someone on here posted seeing a car shooting roman candles at the Anthony henday dry ditch last year. See these last year in querbec spontaneously start no lightning

We just got home from the chaos last nite after a super long day of travel due to the detour. We drove late Monday afternoon from Banff up Hwy 93 to Jasper. We had planned on grabbing a tenting site if there was one available and if not would carry on to Hinton. After Sask crossing the weather really changed and we drove thru a massive storm. The wind really picked up and there were trees blown over onto the road. There was a quite a bit of lightning that way so I would assume that was the cause of the fire south of town. We couldn’t end up getting a site due to power outage at Whistlers due to downed trees so their booking system was down. We tried to head east on 16 and waited in the lineup of cars for a bit before decided to turnaround as the traffic wasn’t moving and the fire trucks all headed back towards town. At this point we only knew the highway was closed to the east. Once back in town there was quite a bit of traffic with massive lineups at the gas stations. People were buying jerry cans like crazy and stocking up on water.

We had fuel, food, water and a tent so weren’t too worried if we were going to be stuck at Jasper for a while. We were eating some pizza in the vehicle and once the emergency alert came thru to evacuate is when it got real crazy. There were people running everywhere in the streets lol. We made it out fairly quick and was a slow drive to Valemount. There were no hotels left there so ended up parking/sleeping overnight at the Westridge staging area as I knew it would be dark amd peaceful there. There was no info of the road opening so I decided to take the northern detour thru PG, Dawson Ck and Slave Lake to get home. Just about 1300km added onto an already long road trip lol. This pic was just before we got turn around east of town.
