So I have starlink mobile, or roaming what ever you want to call it. I used it for 2 weeks at the start, stowed it away for 10 days where what appeared to work and my billing was stopped. Then came back and started using for about 3 weeks, then did the exact same thing after getting a hotel in Jasper. So as Im super busy and see the emails statements that my payment will be taken on the 18th of the month, so I think OK. So then I get texts from my visa for each transaction and it says starlink, $ 345.45 so I look into it and im still being billed for the roaming dish. So simple I now go on my phone and look and its still active, holy crap, well I put it away in the pouring rain and did all this with my phone, guess it stowed it but thats not enough.

So now im dealing with starlink customer support which is not like it used to be. There saying the only service they provide is month to month and not daily roaming and im stuck with the bills I paid and the service they provided me. As I turned it off yesterday and the bill is paid in advance I have that service till Dec 18, 2024. No refunds. So watch people this company has no compassion and doesn't care about customer service at all. Not like they used to. Wish there was another type of satellite service I would cancel everything I had and move over.

So are you in the understanding that when you stow it (and not using for a period of time), then you wont be charged?

I didnt think it worked like that, thought you pay a monthly no matter what until you pause or cancel the service.

I stowed it then thought I shut it down on the mobile app so didn’t think anything of it. I did this already once and it was paused and brought back with no problems. So hopefully you have to be careful and make sure the entire process is completed on the mobile app. Where I did this service was sketchy and i didn’t know it didn’t complete.
Anyway Starlink came back to me and did look after it and even credited me 1 month on my personal dish. I learned a few things on this now and to make sure it’s completed and watch my card closer as well for automatic transactions.

You have to go into the app, whether online or on your phone and pause the service to not get billed. Starlink bills in monthly increments, so if you use the dish for a week, pause for a week then reactivate again the dish will have service the entire time and you get billed for the entire month. Check your billing cutoff date. For our 6 units they are all the 20th, I don't know if this is the Starlink default or if just this account is the 20th.

I think at this point Starlink would be well served by offered a lower end plan for a cheaper rate. $189/month is getting pretty steep for the average weekend warrior for camping use. Maybe the mini will come to Canada eventually with it's data cap based plan. Or even if they had a plan that capped speeds at 10mbit/s for like $75/month.

Stowing it just puts it to sleep, you need to actually "pause" the billing. Once activated you pre-pay to the end of each billing cycle, end of the month ish. So if you hit pause billing on the 17th of November, you still have internet access until the end of the month. I think mine bills out on the 25th.

Stowing is just so you can try and put it back in the box
