A xmr went with us Sunday. Had 200 km on it. At the 16 km point of the trail a fr cv joint broke. Not on a bad mud hole either. He was not even ripping.

Depends on what kind of loon sh%t you get into. I have seen quads at these mud bogs that are floating, so if your quad is too light it floats and hence you never touch bottom...no traction so your not going anywhere. Also there are too many variables to say weight is not your friend, especially because your talking about a purpose built utility Quad. Maybe Can Am figured out their quad was floating so they added some weight. Another fact is bouyancy and you have no idea which quad is lighter under water...because that depends on how much water each quad displaces. Water weighs 1000kg/m3 so if you displace a 1000m3 of water your quad will be a 1000kg lighter under water. So if the polaris displaces more volume of water submerged then it's possible that it is lighter under water than the canned ham. If you are in thick mud where bouyancy has no affect then you can lighten your footprint with a wider tire much like a snowshoe keeps you from sinking in the snow but now go to a water hole and you have more bouyancy because you displace more water. So really squabbling about weight in the mud is a mute point and depends on how your quad is set up and what kind of crap you are in. Anything else you would like to laugh about LOL
Anywhere in my post did I mention water? No said bottomless MUD, and yes if you run wider tires then you have more of a foot print and won't sink as much but you have to compare Apples to Apples Not apples to Oranges. So :rollinglaugh:

I don't see how any of that can be bias, I think that's what they call proof. But since the Outlander costs more, maybe I should of bought one.

You can always throw a couple of cement blocks on the racks if you really want to keep the thing from floating. (Or big rocks, or a log, or your mother in law)

I used to have a couple stakes from a logging truck bunk chained to my old 350 for plowing snow in the winter, way back when I was a kid and barely registered on a scale. (oooh, how things change... :( )

On the other hand, you can't take weight off an already heavy quad so easily.

lol These posts just keep getting better and better, this is beatiful....I'll just tie a tree on top of all my gear to add some weight. WOW...I don't care what the quad weighs, it's a mute point, but a heavier quad has an advantage in most cases since it is purpose built as a utility quad....more weight more traction.

I bought my Polaris XP a month ago, partly due to that video. Just my opinion but don't you think Can-Am would have countered that video by now if they could have, it's almost 2 years old (the original unedited version).... and then maybe their sales will increase to what Polaris is at.;)

Maybe, or maybe its just a Polaris ad... Take every "Promo video" with a grain of salt. Just because they put it on a bunch of rollers doesn't mean its good.

Its like testing an intake on a flow bench versus the real world. You get tons of great cool air on the flow bench, but you get hot stuffy air under the hood. DEsign an intake in a lab, and design another one based upon real world enviroments, real world wins every time. Apply both those with a grain of salt and your golden.

... I guess someone forgot to tell you Can-Am has released Visco-Lok QE sometime within those 2 years... Maybe why Polaris hasn't made a sequel.

Besides, maybe I can bring your high-horse Polaris sales down a bit after my experience with an XP. I assure you, mine was a real world experience and not a Promo video.

Not to say Polaris makes a bad quad.... Just that it didn't live up to my expectations of "Extreme performance".....

That's amazing a Polaris coming out on top in a Polaris paid ad, wow i'd better trade my Can-Am for another 850 XP !!
That's like watching the Chevy "head to head" series made by chevrolet, you can hardly believe it but it appears that the chev (gm) product is the best one??? WOW.
All kidding aside they are both great (unless you get a lemon), so lets all get together and ride, yes you too TEX.

I should probably trade in my Chev for a Dodge. I saw the HD to HD, but now Ram has "Strength in numbers"... Hmmmm...
