Our sled club has one for the fee collection shed, works great. No more excuses from cheap fuckers saying they don't have cash.

That last $20 was the straw that broke the camels back.

Ya, just the home ones, checked, thx. Mine will be here in time for our departure on Aug 6

Ah I didn’t realize the hardware was different for the roaming. I thought it was just a difference in subscription.

I'm right impressed with this setup, no option for a clear view of the sky, obstructed and still getting great speed.

I’m out at Jasper gates campsites. Put the unit on the picnic table and ran the cord into the trailer and whala. 5 min and I have great internet.
Soon (2025) you wont even need the hardware.

If you want high speeds you'll definitely still need the hardware. The cellular capability is to give coverage to areas that are outside of the standard service area. Sat phones will become obsolete.

I'm thinking weather is going to be a huge factor in its functionality. I'm also curious if the next release of phone hardware will be optimized for this. Perhaps co-ordinated with the next iPhone release. I wonder if o'l Elon has plans to produce his own phone.

The other issue is it sounds like all the version 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 satellites don't have Starlink to Cell capability. It's only the V2 minis that do, which at this point in time is less than 1/3 of the constellation. And given that the Falcon 9 rocket can only launch 24 of the V2 Minis at a time, it's going to take a while to replace the existing fleet, at least until Starship starts flying them.

Personally I think the Starlink Mini will be attractive to most people, including me once it arrives in Canada, for data use, although the Starlink to cell capability for out of service text messages would be nice.

They tested a maximum speed of 16mbit on an android phone. Now keep in mind more users will equal lower bandwidth.

You dont think they will make it faster/more efficient etc? Starlink has come along way in a few short years, for example.

They could make it slightly better but they’re limited by using the hardware in all existing phones today. I’ll be stoked just to be able to send text messages or pictures from the back country on the phone I already have. I think if you need more bandwidth you’ll have to use the Starlink mini.
