Too much friggin rain.

As farmers Larry we are conditioned not to say those words for fear of never seeing it again. In 3 weeks we will be whining for rain complaining about it being to dry. It's what we do best.......:d:beer:

Sorry to hear that snopro. Thats the way it usually goes, you pay your insuance premium EVERY year and they NEVER want to pay unless its a TOTAL loss. Even then its no gaurntee they will pay:mad:. I know your frustration. hopefully it doesnt get worse.

90% of the time if we are gonna get hit hard with severe weather or hail and have to replant its June 20-25, and guess what........... Severe storms here tonight and heavy rains tomorrow and scattered wend. I dread this week every year.

Its pretty interesting how the country is affected by the same weather at similar . times of the year, we are always on the lookout for frost in the third week of august for example. seems if we can avoid it then we are good for at least another month.

Bought a similar one about 4 years ago. used it one season and now its a decoration on the shop wall. very time consuming,if you dont get it set right it will either make a poof or every nieghbor within 2 miles will think that someone dropped a bomb. if the stubble is dry then sometimes a flash fire or spark will start it on fire. now that you can get the good poison from the md or county guys these things are of no use for a farmer. you can buy a lot of poison for the price of these.

Yesterday was/is the longest day here for producers in MB, last day of crop insurance. Producers will seed up till end of month, polish canola, sold out, will be trying barely, oats, and green feed, IF we can get on the land.

Pic 1)

timothy seed field, about 10 acres has sunk, upto 50 ft deep, underground stream erosion

Pic 2)

Parkland area of MB, 220 miles north east of WPG. much of the land north of the Trans Canada hiway and west of Brandon looks like this.

:mad2::mad2::mad2:

It was just on the news that at the end of they year they are cutting the subsidy for ethanol and they are working to get it cut before then!

Fuggin government and their "cheap food" policy they can shove it up their arse! wasnt too long ago when corn was $1.75 a bushel and the farmers told the government they needed to fix locks and dams on the mississippi river to better our exports for a better corn market. "Nope" government said you farmers have to find value added in your product, find a use for it here in the midwest. The farmers listened and built all these farmer owned ethanol plants so we could get rid of the corn, now we have a better market but the government is once again saying "Nope" cant have that either supposedly food prices are too high. The truth of the matter is food prices are cheaper because the price of distillers grains v.s. the price of corn.
Oh and gas....... dont forget gas!:nono: supposedly there is no advantage to running ethanol blended fuel......in most cases it cost more! This isnt the fault of the ethanol plants, They arent mandating these automobile makers enough to make a fuel efficient vehicle unless its electric, take the past 5 years vehicles and they are constantly getting WORSE thats right WORSE fuel economy running the exact same 10% ethanol blended fuel! 2-4 mpg less! yet its eaiser to blame the farmers and their ethanol plants. Perhaps the automobile manufactures should listen to NASCAR they are running ethanol racing fuel and they say they are getting better milage out of this fuel than before!!!
Jobs 8000 jobs in minnesota alone is what ethanol plants are responsible for. Yet in a time of such depression and setback in the economy they want to cut the subsidy and send another 8000 people (just in minnesota, not to mention the rest of the U.S. ethanol plants) back to find another job!
I dont know what these people are thinking! First they tell you to find value added then they tell you value added is no good! I guess the government is supposedly all about "going green" but only when its in their favor!

We have the Canadian Wheat Board up here. Eastern Canada has a different set of rules than we do in Western Canada. But thats what happens when 2 provinces run the rest of the country. Trust me , we have issues with government and their meddling up here to.

no doubt of that! Im sure you guys have problems too but its just something different then the states. It just makes you want to stick your foot so far up someones ass when they dont even think before making such a big decision. You know what Im saying, I get tired of getting taken advantage of! most every other business man can just pass the cost down and the farmer has to take what somebody is willing to steal it for. Your in this career as well and you know how much is left when your done buying seed, chemical, fertilizer, make the land payments, etc. not much left to update equipment. expecially when tractors, combines, planters, and sprayers start at 250K and go up from there!

Its what we call .... a lifestyle decision. Lol. Everybody says, oh wheat is $8/bu, you must be getting rich? Everything is relative, fertilizer goes up to match grain prices, A spray that has been around for 20 yrs. goes up and then there is the equipment manufacturers. More technology, more money. Do we really need some of this stuff they are selling us now? Then next year wheat goes to $4.50/bu. Name me some other industries that take a 50% pay cut and roll with it.:(

Prices are the way they are because We continue to purchase higher and higher priced equipment as fast as credit will allow. We receive low commodity prices because we continue to sell into depressed markets,We are business men who are willing to operate at a loss.A large majority of the world farmers are pesents, we really are mearly peasants with a choice.
