Still recovering, waling about 1.5 km per day as well as about 120 - 150 stairs per day, not assisted. Went for my reinstatement of my Drivers License on Thursday. No issue with doctor, then took forms to a registries office, they submitted. Now have to wait for an office worker to review my file, roll there dice and hopefully they land on Yes, should have an answer by Wednesday. This will make a big improvement on my recovery as I want to go to Physio and will be opting out on assistance from the glenrose as they phoned yesterday and were going to try to get me in around the second week of march for training to get me off my walker and walking on my own, :hmm: . I put the walker away the day I got home, lol, and hadn't used it yet. They are too far behind, i'll do on my own or I would be still in bed for two months. Been going in the city often and spending time at my office or visiting clients. Controls my sanity. Not missing much with sledding as there's not much snow, will try my sled this weekend at my parents place,, if they have enough snow, anyway need to let her run for a bit and burn some carbon. Next week going to help the guys and gals at my company, ill go to a 16 story condo project and spend my days on site and run air samples daily on 3 floors, can sit in an office and do computer stuff all day, no different that me being at home all day. Still have chest feeding peg tube, mainly used for water, and meds, all my eating is though my mouth, swallowing is improving I'm able to eat more things by the week, just drinking I can only drink tomatoe / V8 juice in 1/2 oz quantity's. Can even eat granola bars always in small pieces, chew and swallow slowly. Its coming along good. Going to cancel first trip in 2 weeks and reschedule for another month only due to snow conditions, not worth going with crummy conditions and I'm just getting used to this new medication, gabapentin for nerve pain.
I have nerve pain in my face that's awful, feels like someone is scooping my eyeball out with a rusty fork, wire brushing inside my nose and ripping out my teeth on top left side. This stops it but man its a process as you cant take the full dose, you have to work your way up, however this makes you tired and wipes you out at times and takes time to get used to, also as i get used to a dose and pain is under control then I stop and don't increase. think I'm going to stop at the current dose as this works and I'm not a zombie, lol.

Gabapentin is a tough drug, I tried it for my pinched nerves in my back and I agree with you, I felt like a zombie with no ambition and I wanted to sleep all the time. I hope the nerve pain subsides for you and you can eventually quit taking that garbage.

Glad to see you’re improving Ron. Don’t overdue it and go backwards though. Tiny steps lead to big steps.

Glad that you are improving. Good work, but don't overdo it. I take Gabapentin before bed for issues after my MC accident years ago. It puts me out, but unfortunately doesn't keep me asleep. I don't know how I'd function if I took it in the day.

Dang namit Brother,,, it sounds like the whole process is some what putting you too challange,,, good on you for moving thing's forward the best you can Ron...

My good friend in BC has been taking it one day at a time,,, hes at battle with some of the inner thoughts and feelings that come with set backs...

So he rewards him self with the positive stuff in life and small rewards he see each day ...

Hes definitely humbled by good folks around him and positive attitudes...

He cant wait too find a sunny spot too sit out side and take it in...

Blue skies and bright sun shine is good for our human spirit...

They wanted me on 1800 mg per day, first week started with 100 mg 3 times a day, second week was to go on 300 - 100 - 100 all week, no way, went to 200-100-100 then will stop at 200 - 200 - 200 next week that's enough or I'm in full zombie mode, that's enough to control the pains.

My son is back on gabapentin as well,100mg 3x day. So far seems to be helping his phantom pains. He was on pregabalin for a couple months due to the gabapentin causing high blood pressure but it’s major side affect is blurry vision.

I never even thought about phantom pains from an amputation.

Buddy of mine was in an accident when a teen crushed pelvis. Legs still worked but he couldn't realy feel them. Bout 5 years ago now 50 had double amp below knee due to diabetes and a bone infection. Woke up after and his feet were itchy. Told nurse to go to dumpster and scratch them. The body's nervous system is wierd.

So put some better fuel in my sled and ripped up the yard a bit. Tried one doughnut and slid out. Well I think I’ll try the mountains and end of month. Still have this chest tube for water and meds however I am eating a lot more solid foods and thick liquid. Stamina is good till about 6 now, then start getting real hot and wobbly. Had to include photo's of the awesome front and rear bumpers. Thanks @BrianH for installing these and the ski rubbers.

If I did what the docs wanted me to do id still have my walker and would be eating mashed food. He was surprised when I showed up at the glenrose without my walker, I said it was in same place it was when I got home on Jan 4, in my hall closet. Started my own physio therapy in spruce grove

don't push it too hard, I know a little old lady with a cane that may beat your arse with said cane if you push too hard too fast.

Well finally get this G-Tube out tomorrow morning, a bit more of a process when its been in for 5 months. Eating like a king tonight as as of 11 pm cant eat for 1 1/2 days and soup and light foods and small quantities. Once the stiches are out and I'm healing can start full rehab at physio and the gym. Im having some issues with facial nerve pain which is the worst pain I've ever had and it throbs and 1/2 my face is on fire, gabapentin helps this tremendously however this causes drowsiness. So I need to figure out the best dosage. Passed my road test so have the probationary license removed and full 5 & 6 back. My stamina is getting better, still can go to about 5, then am so tired need a 1-2 hr nap then good to watch the hockey games.

Still a whole lot better than being wheelchair bound or 6 feet under!
