are slednecks jakets any good?
I have a slednecks Bandit line jacket... was super disapointed...
looks cool and such but not dry or warm by any means...
I would consider hitting ski/snowboard shops to find some last years model stuff. IMO they have better style than the Klim stuff, and you are less likely to look exactly like the guy on the trailer over from you.
One thing to look out for while shopping is the rating. Ski jackets are measured in MM of waterproofness. Im not sure if snowmobile gear is? Example, 5000mm waterproof/5000mm breathability. These will be useless, and you will be dripping wet in an hour. 20,000mm waterproofness/20,000mm breathability is AWESOME. You can dump a beer down the front of yourself, and it isn't going to touch your inner clothes. This material also breaths well, which is real nice on warmer days. Look out for fully taped seams as well, as those help to keep moisture out.
All in all, just one dudes opinion, your mileage may vary. :d
Good input. Taped seems are soooo important! For wet and wind!!!!
I know myself, I don't care as much about style and looking like someone else in the parking lot as I do about riding 10 hour days in -20 weather in 3 ft of snow...I want to KNOW I'm warm and dry ALL DAY...not wonder if I will be. As opposed to "I'm wet and cold, but boy I sure looked good in the parking lot...and noone looked like me" Liking your gear and your look is important, but the Klim gear is rated 100% waterproof and breathable and so much tougher-so rather than having a 'repel' factor, it is 100% waterproof due to Gortex lining. The rating isn't comparable to the ski/board stuff, I use that gear in the spring and it's not even in the same ballpark as the Klim gear I wear all winter. The ski/board gear stays dry to a point by repelling snow to a point...then after that you are soaked and cold! I have Burton with a 20,000mm rating-'repels' moisture to 20,000mm volume after that repelling is gone. I love that gear, but even a 20,000mm rating doesn't get you through the long, wet days, you can dump a beer down your front at the start of the day...but do it at the end of the day you'd just be wet and stunk like beer.
As far as bang for your buck. I think FXR gear is a pretty good quality for the price you pay. I have had mine for 5 years now and I am never wet or cold. It is a little bulky in comparison to Klim stuff but it is also less than half the price.
KLIM's warranty is second to none as well. Any probs with gear contact and they take care of it right away.
when you can get the klim stuff for great deals, i would buy it! but at full pop, no thanksI had Helly Hansen for a few years, it's realy good gear and fairly mainstream so the price is resonable. Last year bought Klim gear on sale at there Canada website for half price. Seems good so far, I like the purpose built padding.
