check the elevations, or look at which direction the rivers run

Uh, I live on the bow river and it flows into the hudson bay I think. Thats east of Calgary no ? Whitecourt would be North or "Up" no ?

it is common to refer to north as up, but as per your handy dandy map, the watershed for whitecourt drains to the north, which in fact makes it down north.
so if one was in whitecourt, you would be if so inclined, to go up to calgary.

i learned alot in this thread. i learned that boosted yamahas are the best in the world for all types of riding and there is absolutely no 2 ways about it.

i also learned that people who buy skidoo are total idiots because they lose hp at elevation and blow up

Which one would be the better purchase? I have an 08 XP. Thinking of getting a new sled - Yamaha Nitro or Skidoo Summit X Etech - which would you buy? and why?

Thanks!

heres a thread that I started last year as I was looking at a Nytro or Xp ended up buying a Xp mainly due to the fax the Yamaha dealers were stuck last year with Yamaha not giving any decent rebates where the rest of the manufactures were giving good rebates, when I go to buy a new sled again I'll more then likely go with a Yamaha as they are alot more durable then anything else out there. My Xp if you even mention the words rock or trees the bumper, pipe, and A arms bugger off and hide LOL. I do like my XP and they are a bit tougher then what everybody makes them out to be.

Thinking of buying a Nytro, would like honest opinion of the sled.

rode with two nitros more than a few times last year, one was a stock nitro for the first 5 rides and then had to be turboed to get anywhere, the other nitro had the mcx 270 kit

the 270 kit had exhaust manifild leak for a good chunk of the season, it also pucked oil all over engine when fliped, big cleanup and needed oil, owner is spending a few more grand into it this year to rectify problem

as for the other nitro that received the full blown 320mcx kit mid season, he had tunning issues that never got figured out till end of season

i drove both tnitros and found them to pull hard on the shoots and were able to keep front end down, they have big lungs and will work your arms hard, but i also found them in the trees to be to much work to handle over a long day, you finnaly give up early

my 880xp ran as good as a guy can exspect, it will not outclimb a tnitro in a open area, but just add some tenhnical to the climb and see how the ligher xp handled, after the end of the day, my xp rocks

as for weight, xp880 with 3 inch 162 full of fluids is 535lbs, nitro full of fluids and similar track is 652lbs... this was last year comparsions done at the scale

so for me a 200lb guy the 880 is just perfect, once they get the 880etec figured out it could be ever better, and if the turbo work out on the etec, maybe even work the tnitro

Heres what I don't understand. Seems to me Yamaha is really holding back on the Nytro's engine in stock form. They've got street bikes pushing 180hp at the crank (R1) and they're still very reliable. Now I know the Nytro is a 3 cyl 1050cc engine but I'm sure it has way more capability and still be able to fly Yamaha's reliability flag with 150+hp, no?

I've ridden a couple of stock Nytros and they handle not too bad but the engine is a big disappointment IMO. Just signs off way to early, no real top end scream that I saw. Stock for stock, I'd take an XP, I like power and lightweight but thats just me...
