Johnny, I figured out the best strategy for you to become a sled celebrity! With all the hard riding and many days each season you put in you could be the Mike Holmes of mountain riding! Put up weekly youtube posts called "Hurkot Hurts It" and explain what you broke and what we need to do differently to keep our sleds running. I look forward to seeing life size Johnny cut outs in dealerships everywhere soon!

Thanks Jim ha ha. The reason I ride is because I love this sport and trying to make money or fame is the least of my intentions. It's very expensive and you have to live a certain type of life to afford the money and time this hobby demands. I get a little worked up about things like the 850 belt issue and such because I have many friends that own these sleds and I see first hand the amount of frustration they have. The 850 is a beast of a sled and I'll be the first to admit I don't have a chance following a good rider on one. I just ask that Ski-Doo (and all manufacturers) acknowledge the issues that come along with building super light weight and high horsepower mountain sleds, and treat their customers with respect. The number on the bill of sale these days is getting bigger and bigger as each year passes on. We are so obsessed with this **** we lay down money in April to guarantee we have the exact machine we want in October. No other sport can do this. I don't see any dirtchecks on a side by side, quad, or dirt bike. So when someone pays $15-20k to have the latest and greatest, they are serious about this sport. If they have problems don't tell them they are stupid, no one else is having issues, or flat out ignore them until it's time to take a deposit on next years sled that is "all fixed now". I'll be buying the hold over sleds from here on out, because I'd rather have less performance on a machine that I know, than take the gamble that "everything will be good this time, I promise!". So when are the rebates on the 2018 cats coming out?

And the rebates are starting to flow.
I wonder what the extend warrenty options are worth?

Bingo. I snowchecked my T3 and knock on wood its been a dead reliable sled for me aside from a couple of recalls. Whether or not the internet is blowing the 850 issues out of proportion, I don't feel comfortable plunking down 15K+ on a new sled that may or may not have said issues resolved. Especially when its an issue that blows $200 belts regularly. With that said my next sled will likely be a holdover or a gently used unit. Someone else can take the depreciation hit and gamble with the unknowns. In the meantime I'll keep riding my T3

What is the truth? Are they really eating that many belts? I haven't seen any one changing a belt on the hill. Did see an 850 towed off yesterday with a toasted engine at 1800k. Same guy told me it was an engine at 1800k. It was your buddy from the red buildings east of town. I don't know how he knew that cause we were standing at the trailhead in the morning when it came down. Back 6 +\- years ago I said that no way in hell would I pay $1500-2000 less then new for used sled that’s a year old and has 700 plus kms.”I would buy new first”
Lots sold used back then for that and good but didn’t make any sense to me.
First year is $5g less +/-then new , second year a bit more till they hit the 1/2 price mark.
Now a few years later it only makes sense to buy non-current or used unless you need the new iron and have the coin.
The snow checking thing is a complete gimmick. IMO

I know they definitely have snow injestion issues if you don't silicone a few spots.
And just for the record a downed sled of any kind is a piss off, waste of a day for the entire group.
