Introducing SlimeR

Another season is upon us and this years build has been very time consuming! Picked up my 2020 back in August and didn’t really get a chance to tear it all down until a few week before the Edmonton sled show. She is still very much a work in progress but quite happy with everything thus far. Still haven’t rode it yet. I will wait a few more weeks until the snowpack is at a suitable level before taking her out for her maiden voyage.

First off the sled was the stock boards for some CR Racing Gen II Extreme Running Boards, CR Gen II Rear Bumper, Heavy Duty internal bracing, and a set of heavy duty suspension brackets. Everything was test fitted for fitment mocked up and then sent off to Jenn at Liquid Venom Hydrographic’s in Kelowna for a special 3 stage automotive paint. Color for this year is Neon Glowstick SlimeR Green! I went with the automotive paint this year over powder coating because of the glue used in the Alpha rail, and nobody could really match this special one off color in a powder. Everything was sandblasted down, cleaned, sprayed by hand in 3 separate stages and hung up to dry at room temperature. It was quite the process tearing it all down and hand spraying it then putting it all back together but always worth it in the end.

Plans for this year is to keep it stock. Well stockish anyways lol this will be my my first naturally aspirated sled since my 2011 Pro
No pipe, no fuel controller, just a stock motor with some clutching, belt drive, high compression head, y pipe, timing key and a few little tricks I have picked up along the way to make it super reliable and a strong running machine.

Main focus was strengthening the chassis, sealing up all the leaks in the airbox and then onto clutching, and gearing this turbo slayer. Stay tuned for more updates as the build comes together.

Here are a few pics of the progress so far, feel free to post up any questions

At first glance I was impressed with cat fixing the upper intake screen issue that the 18-19’s have, the top portion of the intake is sealed quite well on the 20’s and no need to silicone the upper portion. However the cat intake has 3 parts to it. Let’s call it the front nose cone area, the middle section (plenum) and the upper intake screen area. After removing the hood I couldn’t believe how horrible the rest of the airbox is. Here is a couple pics of the very front portion of the intake. Not impressed CAT after finding this I made the choice that I better pull the whole hood apart and do this the right way the way it SHOULD come from the factory and silicone the front nose cone, and the plenum as it had some pretty big gaps as well

I knew at this point I was getting myself into a pretty big job but I pulled the entire hood apart including the plenum, about 50 screws later and a lot of cursing why on earth they would send this from the factory like this is beyond me! No gasket no silicone, just some foam inside the air plenum and some noise dampening channels.

This is where my quick silicone job turned into a really big job, the more I looked at the inside of the box the more I hated everything about it. Out comes the air tools to cut all the sound channels back...I ripped out the sticky styrofoam junk that’s just going to hold moisture and I ported/gutted my plenum. A few hours later I was able to shed approx 5lbs out of the hood from all the thick unnecessary plastic and channel it for proper airflow with no noise emissions crap!!

Time to start the silicone process which I ripped it all apart to do in the first place lol love how you go to do one thing and find a bigger issue and get sidetracked

if you don't use right stuff, you used the wrong stuff lol

That’s right NoBrakes!! The right stuff on everywhere that it seals let it cure for 24hrs then clear overtop as a double barrier. Still blown away with the quality control issues on such an important part of a snowmobile!!
