Keep your dogs in your camp, your generators off by 8:00(so that we can enjoy the quiet of nature) and music for your ears only(better yet leave the music at home), nobody else wants to hear it, this applies to random camping and paid camping. Simple.

hrmmmmmm....random camping and quiet......most people who random camp do so because they are not wanting to be "quiet" and most make it a point to keep as much distance between they're group and others......that said, if quiet, and rules are your thing then maybe paid camping is the way to go......if i go out on crown land in the middle of no where i am doing so in order fo rme to be able to play my music, laugh and have fun till all hours with my friends, and not have to worry about my dogs......yes be courtious but at the same time no rules is why these people chose to random camp

I like Plio7's comments. Must be related to Bogger.

Mudd Kitty, don't take it too personally. I'm not trying to attack you. Just responding in general. I get a bit fired up about dog stuff.

And for the record, my dogs are NOT aggressive savages and I state that in the post. I was making a point by example. Been around dogs a long time, long enough to know that they have minds of their own and instincts. Even the best trained dogs have moments where they make bad decisions. What about the need to chase!? What abou the many dogs that are of leash in a site and rush other dogs that walk by. Sometimes the owners are aware and can call their dogs back quickly, but many are too late. They are animals after all. One of my favourite off leash area comments...."my dog has never done THAT before". Dogs are territorial by nature and will protect their pack....by insticnt! I teach kids that they should always avoid strange dogs and ask any owners before approaching. There is a proper way to approach dogs as well. It irks me big when I see parents let their kids randomly approach dogs in an off leash area. These dogs are in an excited state and anything is possible.

To try and get back on topic a bit, when camping I will usually go introduce myself to other dog people and meet the dog (I would yours too Mud Kitty). If all is good then we might introduce our dogs together and establish the pack rules. If by chance any of the dogs get off leash and decide to visit at least I know it and have a better idea what to expect. Still, my kid and other small kids in our camp will be kept at a distance to ALL the dogs. Even my own gentle giants. Dogs have bad days too. I always am aware of where my kid is and what she is doing, same with the dogs.

Ever watch how a group of random campers react when a strange large dog comes walking into camp. Everyone is uneasy...for a moment.

Anyway, I think this thread is going a bit off topic, although it's a good one. Point is respecting thy neighbour.

Anyone want to get into a generator discussion :d

Might not be a good idea right now...I've had a couple pops.

I use to have an Akita{RIP}. She was the best dog i ever owned. I have heard pretty much all say keep your dog on a leash. Well if my dog was on a leash you could not go near her. She was trained, leash meant "on duty" off leash meant go play. Not sure that many people have done this with there dog. Never trust a dog till the dog trusts you

private campsites are regulated by the owners who want to maintain a controll over a large group of peeps for both saftey and enjoyment of all Random camping is for those of use that want the freedom to behave the way we want to and not be dictated to if I am camping in the bush and want to let my dog of her leash so she can play I will do so if there are others near me I will do my best to keep her in the camp site it is not that hard she likes to be near her family I will play my music but still be respectfull to those around me. but I am out there for the freedom to do as I please.

I think the rules should be different for random camping and paid sites. If we are random camping, we're going to turn on some tunes, drink beer until the wee hours and let dogs be dogs. Luckily, we generally random camp far enough away from others to allow us these opportunities.

At a paid site, it's time to play by whatever rules are laid out.

Well said, I agree completely. Both parents and dog owners need to be aware of the situation at all times. It's just a matter of having consideration for your neighbors and realizing that they may not have the same view of what amount of noise, etc. is acceptable. You can have a good time, stay up late no problem, but you don't have to be excessively noisy to do so. You can bring dogs, but be responsible for them and control them. I have a bud that brings his dog to my cabin. He tells me "oh he listens good" then let's the dog off his leash (large Malamute) and the first thing the dog does is run off my property and ignores his owner's calls to come back. He's not a mean dog, just doesn't listen well. This is far too common and is a perfect example of a dog owner that needs lessons on how to control his dog. I get to the point that I tell him "keep him on leash or don't bring him" because I'm not going to allow his dog to run around the neighborhood. I think from the comments that everyone here does have respect for others, just maybe some different views here and there. Happy camping!:)

paid camping, respect the rules and be considerate of others. keep the hounds leashed, and if it's a barker, leave the damn thing at home.

Random camping, there really is no "rules" and that is the biggest reason that I enjoy dry camping. I let the dog run free, play music either from the stereo or manually with a gee-tar, and it doesn't bother me if buddy's $70,000 camper doesn't have enough battery power and he has to run his genny all night to keep his furnace running. well, ok....it does kinda pizz me off (damnit people, dump those 12v RV batteries and get a pair of 6v). :d

if this thing scares you, you need to see a therapist....

We random camp always. Can't remember the last time we camped with rules. We do it to be secluded and away from peeps and do our own thing without bothering others or them bothering us :D.

We do it so we don't hear the peeps at the site next door, or the dogs barking, or the music and generators that aren't ours...but also so they don't hear ours. We want to rev our bikes and not bother others, we want our dogs to be free and not bother anyone. If someone happens to be near us we tie them which makes everyone unhappy. They are well behaved and just hang out...until strangers are near or other dogs. Then it becomes a nuisance for everyone!

I love all dogs and love to see them out enjoying themselves too, but the ONLY issues we have with our dogs is when other campers dogs apprear at our site and then don't leave, or when they do they're back a few minutes later to raise more ruckus cuz they found new friends. All hell breaks loose each time, not matter how good and friendly each of the dogs are and then noone is enjoying themselves anymore. :(

Our dogs are guardians of their yard and we live in the country so they take that mentality with them when we're in the bush..they guard their territory.

We random camp all the time, but we do so to get away from all the azzhats out there. If I wanted to camp beside some dipshit with a barking dog, I'd pitch a tent in my back yard. Usually we try and pick a spot big enough for our group but small enough that no one else can join us.

Here's the rules as we've always interpreted them:

If you were in the area first we gotta put up with whatever you are doing (dogs off leash wandering around, loud music, burning your couch, etc). For these reasons we will never camp beside you, we will drive until we are by ourselves and don't have to worry about other people and what they are doing.

If we are there first and there is still room and you show up and decide to camp near us, that's your choice but we were there first - you don't like it? Get the FAWK out and find your own spot. I don't tolerate bullsh!t - you control your dog or I'll control it for you. If it bites my kid, you won't have to worry about putting it down, it will already be done.

Simple rules.

There's an open spot we really like by the river and there's a 'kind of' spot right next to it...sure as chit someone will park right next to you if you give them the chance. What's with peeps that they have to do that...drive 500 ft further and get the F away from me!! We do what you do Modman...keep on drivin' until we don't see anyone! Not, "oh, there's a camper in the middle of buttf*ck nowhere, let's camp right beside them!"

I now set up my tent and park our bikes and extra chit at that clearing...then set up the trailer at the other one. Hubby thinks that's a bit unreasonable , but is always happy to never have neighbours LOL. These aren't 'sites' just open spaces in the bush FYI....so I don't want to hear about it ;) there's lots of room for you...just keep on drivin' :p

It's not unreasonable IMO. Like you said, who the hell wants to drive out in the backcountry to be "alone" and then camp right next to someone? Tons of room out there, find your own space peeps!

It has been at least 10 years since I stayed in a campground, We only look for random camping just for the fact we can have peace and quiet and at the same time if a loud party night breaks out so be it. Everybody knows what weekends are going to be busy ones both in the bush and in the private spots and that is most likely when the problems will occur. If you want peace and quiet, stay home on those weekends. See you all in the bush, but not to close,Cheers.

We have been random camping now for over 5 years and have only had one bad situation with noise. I go out in the bush for the peace and quiet NOT to hear your music or gensets all night. I must say that I prefer random camping over paid camping. Paid campsites are way more noisy. I guess we have been lucky over the years to have had it quiet.

You guys are to fancy with your gens sets and all this crap. I bring my tent and booze and food that's about it :p Even when I bring my trailer ain't got no fancy genset never need it!

Campsites are nice sometimes. Because it's cool to hang out with other people, and well pick up women. Can't do that in the middle of nowhere :d

But ya being alone with no one else within miles is so nice, nothing to worry about.

But stray dogs and/or kids are a PIA. Especially if you have open food and booze everywhere. I mean i've had a parent pissed at me when I had alcohol in the open in MY campsite because they said their kid could get into it? WTF? Watch your kid......
