Portable generators

I have a truck camper, the wife wants a generator... what do I need? Yamaha 2000is from Argyll is on sale. Any tips? Honda? Electric start? We use it a few times a summer at the races, sometimes no plug in available.

2000 is good as long as you don’t plan on running air conditioning

The Yamaha inverter generators are so quiet you barely hear them running. I have two 3000-watt yammis they're by far the best Jenny's I've ever bought. I probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 15000 hours on each one and they still run perfect

I used the BE 2000 and the BE 3500 both worked excellent.

Had a 3000 honda, little to heavy to move around, sold it and bought a 2000, the 2000 will run air conditioner but only that, found that was fine, shut everything down and cool it down the shut it off, miss the remote start but no biggie . I like the honda because its very quiet

I run a 2000watt champion inverter works well for the trailer, nice and quiet half the price of a Yamaha don’t need a crane to lift it either

Those Yamaha 2000's are super quiet, the old man has one. If you get the right model you can also parallel 2 together with a parallel kit for 4000 watts, or get the regular ones and build a suicide cord for 4000 watts. They really are a nice generator, and easy on fuel, just not enough jam to run most AC units.

I have a champion 3100 watt from costco, and its slightly cheaper than the yamaha 2000. It isn't as quiet as a honda or yamaha, but it will run most AC units.

I have the 2000 Yamaha inverter, had it for about 5 years now. Love it. Never tried AC, but for general use its great, not to heavy, starts good, very quiet, almost to quiet, forget it running allot. Highly recommended.

I run two of these in parallel when I want to use the a/c. Otherwise just run one. They are also very quiet.
I also like that they stack on top of each other with the parallel kit.

I bought a Boily 3600 inverter in 2012. It is quiet and suits my needs as I seldom use it except making coffee and toast in the morning when I am dry camping and during that hour that it runs, it tops off my house batteries. For whatever reason, it will not run my AC but that only has about 12 hours (the AC) in the last six seasons so really not a problem. The Boily was inexpensive at $1,100 and is quiet (58 db). It hasn't missed a beat.

Having said that, if you aren't using it a ton, I would suggest you talk to Arf about the BE 3500. If you are running the generator alot, I would propbably spend the extra (used to be alot) on the Honda or Yamaha.

I’ve got a Yamaha 2400is. Easily starts my A/C, is light enough for one guy to lift in and out of the truck and is very quiet. It’s a nice compromise between the 2000 size that typically won’t start the A/C and the 3000 size that are a real grunt to move around. The Yamaha and Honda’s are more expensive than the no name brands, but like everything else, you get what you pay for. I have friends that tried the champion and kipor brands, both were louder than my machine, the kipor outright failed with about 40 hours on it and the champion would surge under load above about 1500w.

one thing nobody has mentioned when comparing the Chinese brands to the Yamaha/Honda is resale. My parents bought a 2000 Honda 6 years ago, paid 1299 for it, sold their home and moved to town last summer, felt the no longer needed it, listed it on Kijiji asking for best offer, got $1100 the same day. It looked like new, maybe 10 hours on it, but they were flooded with inquiries.

If I was buying one today I think I would go with that 2400, it looks like a winner.

Thanks boys! The Yammi 2000is is 799 right now and the 2000ist which you can pair is 899. I don't have AC and the 9'6" doesn't leave much cargo hauling room besides under the table and aisle, or in the boat which leads me to the smaller frame units. I have a decent solar panel and 2x6V system with inverter but the wife wants to run a slow cooker, blender and stuff like that. probably use it most for an ice maker and charge the kids Audi R8 car lol

Honda 2000

mines been flawless for years. Powers both my holiday trailer ( havent tried the AC as i think its broken) and my sled trailer at the same time no issues.


it also fell of the back of the boat once.....spent the week on the lake bottom before we found a diver to retreive it. flushed it out and its been running for 2 years now haha!
