Have a cutler stage 3 kit and going back to natrally aspirated. I'll at least be able to ride.

Unless all your riding buddies have turbo's as well, it takes a ton of the fun out of it imo. I've found the last couple years that a big bored sled is way more reliable than a turbo (just my experience).

Good thread... I had to go back and read the initial question again.

About the two-stroke turbo reliability.... I would say just as reliable as any stock two-stroke, but requires a little more maintenance and care sice you have a higher risk of burning down. As long as you don't mind looking things over every ride or two, you're good to go.

Hubby got two seasons on his TM8, hassle free, and this year it's getting a new top end after 3,000+ miles, just as maintenace.

We will never be on NA sleds as long as we can continue to afford it :)

I think as for Polaris......reliability is higher when you turbo it......just because of the fuel box......the N/A 800 blow up all the time but the turbo 800 are going 3000 plus miles........

I and 90 percent of the guys I ride with have a head shim, and run 17 pounds all day on pump gas(I actually run purple gas- marked premium the last 2 seasons). Stock pistons and stock rods. What we are saying is that the 2 stroke turbo is really workin well on the M8 for the last 2 years and looks real promising on the Pro. Essentially sled cost, turbo and install are comparable, performance and reliability are not comparable. The Yamaha Turbo will surpass the 2 stroke turbo in all aspects except one, landing huge CB and GK drops. Not really a factor because 99 percent of the sledders won't do the real big jumps primarily because they like their teeth attached and the convenience of being able to walk and dance the Horizontal Polka! RS

Along with that head shim come a couple different things. A being lower compression and b the fact that while the head shim is being installed there is grinding being done to cam gears to change valve timing. That being said this is where we get back to PURPOSE built engines. In order to do this with a two stroke well the head need to be milled and the cylinders need to be reworked to change port timing. Im not saying one is better than the other what i am saying is lets get to the bottom of what makes these engines properly accomodate boost.
