Hope this gets worked out for you, sounds like somebody got paid to check a suspect pump and didn't do a very good job. After you get the motor fixed premix the oil and gas for the first tank, that way you can verify that the pump is working as the oil level will go down, a little extra smoke on the first tank of fuel is cheap insurance. Not trying to be smart but I am surprised nobody did that anyway as there was a suspect oil pump that may have been the culprit on the first rebuild, as was suspected/suggested by the guy at rpm and also the first owner who took it to Martin to check. It's tough to check the pumps are delivering enough oil on a bench or even in the shop. When the oil tank is still full at the end of a tank of fuel it's pretty obvious

Well from what I have just read it sounds like the cause of the problem never got fixed, just the resulting damage.

I agree. Now to just figure out how to get them to own up to it and pay for it or my season is over before it even starts. already had to put out for a rental for that weekend. Kinda killed the budget for awhile as I didnt want to ruin my brother and nephews first ride either.

sled burned up on me

we were able to get it out, but still - really was hoping this sled would last me a bit

I hate to say this but if this guy is already two steppin' you with the piston to wall clearance comment and from what i see from the comments in this thread which aren't positive, you are probably s.o.l. I hope i'm wrong. Maybe there is a clearance problem, find out what the p/w clearance is set at on this motor if this is what there diagnosis is. If it's just a stuck piston and everthing else is good it may not be that expensive of a fix. "Do i want them fixing my motor," sure if they're going to do right and cover some costs of repair, if not get it out of there asap and into someone who will help.Higgins.

Does anyone know why the engine needed to come apart in the first place? Answering that question may be the key to solving your concern, as it possibly has something to do with this second failure.

I would take it Trackside in Olds, Alberta. It is likely on your way back or to Golden. Olds does good work on sleds. Good luck.

not sure bout the mechanics, but I do know the service is pure crap!

one thing I dislike is buying anything that has "rebuilt" on it! (why was it rebuilt)

One thing I miss about Cat already is having a good dealer. Echo Cycle was so good to deal with, but I found myself there for parts way to much.

Worst case I would just take the sled to a place you trust get the motor rebuilt, get a lisenced mechanic to document why the motor failed, and sue martin. It would be VERY easy if you have a lisenced mechanic saying why it failed was clearly martins fault, especially if martins orignal invoice says the mileage, and the motor seized a mere 5km after they were suppose to check things. That way you'd end up with it being done right.

The worst part of this is one person assembled the motor and the other was suppose to set it up. So each person is saying they did their job right. What else would you expect them to say right.

I talked to 162Wizzy again today and he is going to call Jerry at Martin in the morning and try to help out as this would be him fighting if he had held onto the sled for just one more ride. Or 3 miles of a ride anyways.

As of right now its looking like will end up paying at least some of this bill. Looking at new cylinders and pistons. Possible injectors and pump too.

Hope Wizzy can get Jerry to take some of the responsibility and eat the bill.

Well I have given up.

Looks like Jerry at Martin has done nothing wrong. There is oil in the bottom end on both sides. So the oil injection was working.

It is looking like the wiseco pistons were set up too tight. They were set at the manufactures spec but through some research I have found that with the Nikasil cylinders that isnt enough for expansion.

Both pistons are scored really bad. PTO side much worse than the Mag side. Nikasil was chipped.

Looks like the pistons expanded so much in the cylinders they just seized.

Jerry is being good and trying to give me a good deal on a rebuild.

Dont know what else to do.

Get a quote first, then talk to a couple of other shops and see what they can do. Shop around. Do you have a bill at Martins for the inspection or were they giving a break to see where the respondsibility lies? If they can put this together for you very reasonably
with warranty then that may be the way to go, then your covered for a period of time. If not, find someone else. But get this thing fixed, i feel for you the first time you crater a motor it's disheartening but it's part of the snowmobile game so you move on and get her fixed. Two months from now when you're tearing up the hill and putting on miles you won't even remember it. Higgins.

Eric at Specialty did a quick quote for me when I was at the shop on Friday and Jerry at Martin is doing it for a few hundred less. Jerry is being quite resonable about this and I gotta give him credit for that. I admit I was worried with all the bad stuff that was said but he seems to be really trying to help. I cant personally bad mouth the guy.....YET...LOL

Have to wait and see how the sled runs. I cant wait to get it out and ride.

See you all in the hills and thanks for all the interest and help from you all.

i would be talking to the engine assembler about some kind of assistance or possibly warranty............... He supplied the pistons that caused the damage and he assembled it. He needs to talk to his supplier or wiseco themselves on your behalf. Sounds like martin is in the clear. Make sure martin scans your ecu to make sure the manifold atmospheric pressure sensor is operating properly.......... Just my little old 2 cents worth!

Dude that is brutal, there is NO way you should pay for it, I don't care who tries to blame who but your the VERY last one who should be paying for it. I know the previous owner has been working with you, but he should be steping up to.

I just got my RT1000 out this weekend and I can assure you though, get it running right and you'll be grinning ear to ear all day long, my frickening arms are sore it pulls SO dahm hard, rev 800, cat 900 none are anything close. The 800's feel like a 500 after you ride the RT.

But my arms are mostly sore from digging out the silly 800's :p
