Yeah the farther north you go the worse they get. Id Need a trophy truck if I lived in Edmonton....

Western Canada road tax is around $0.13 to $0.16 per litre depending on where you are. $2000 may be a high number for comparing road only tax but now you will not just be paying for roads but now need to build and maintain an equally expensive transmission line. With the petroleum model the delivery has been handled by private companies, Now it will be by the tax payer. BTW i don't expect the current taxes collected on petroleum is covering the costs to maintain and improve the roads, bridges etc.

So on the road, 400km for $22 = 5.5c/km. Any reasonable car gets 35mi/gal. At Calgary gas pricing less the road tax is only 6.4c/km. So, if it isn't a commuter where you are actually traveling and not home every night, I do not see the advantage once they start charging road tax on electrics.

Sorry I didn’t explain this very well. You can charge 0-80 percent at a supercharger for about 13$. Supercharging is priced per minute. 80 to 100% is probably 8$ as the rate of charge dramatically decreases as the battery gets over 90%. Other chargers could be just a flat rate per hour, regardless of power output.
The advantage is that on the highway the car stays in the Center of the lane, passes slower cars automagically, and takes highway exits/entry merge. I’ve been using auto steer in tractors for most of my life and this is way more impressive.

Wait so you’re saying the current system doesn’t work but we need to use the current system for EV? Why not change the road tax for all vehicles? When did the conversation switch from “you can’t go anywhere in an EV because they have no range!” To “hey you EV drivers are destroying the roads and not paying a dime?”. It can’t be both so you have to pick one.
I really don't know why you want to convince anyone to switch. Once the majority move to electric, all your little subsidized freebees are gone. No more taxpayer funded discounts on vehicles, no more benefits using the HOV lanes, no more getting out of the road tax, no more free spots sitting available to charge at the casino/hotel/grocery store, etc. I would really be wanting to maybe keep this to myself.....

Not yet, but I want to. But I don't want to buy one, at least not yet. I really have no use for a $50k commuter car at this point. Plus, if I am adding a second car, kinda going to make it a fun car. Something for the summer and something that is fun to drive. Yes I know your car is quick, but in my opinion, quick isn't always fun.

I don't see him trying to convince anyone to switch. He is simply telling his story about a purchase he has made and everyone seems to be coming at him with anti EV nonsense.
Maybe a EV isn't practical for you and your lifestyle, that's totally fine. However if you actually look at the real statistic of the majority of people in North America live, work and play within a 30km radius, they make total sense. Far more than a diesel one ton anyway.

If you haven’t owned a item and trying to tell people it’s no good your point is not valid. IMO
Like people that have never owned a dodge pickup and telling everyone they are junk, never owning a artic cat and saying it’s not any good and so on ?!! Lol
Until you have own a EV for some time we get to listen and do research .
A percentage of people will always think there stuff is the best and nothing better until they purchase something-else but that’s easy to spot.

I do believe most people want EV's to the answer to the worlds problems. It would be cool to go to sleep in the car and wake up somewhere else. The reality is we live in a very big and cold country. Roads are long and expensive to maintain and there are relative few to pay for them. This is a serious hurdle for the EV industry as it has been for traditional traffic too.
Of course the range has had to increase (and has) for them to be accepted so if that conversation hadn't been out there they would still be maxing out at 200 kms.
My point was and still is: If you are considering a EV, you should anticipate user fees from the government and this morning on BNN it was discussed that Tesla will likely be moving to a subscription for customers for regular software updates. Enjoy it while it's cheap.

I have been watching Tesla for years. Not because of they are EV, but because the technology (primarily the self driving feature) that is in their vehicles. I thought the Cyber Truck would be my first, but I just can't get past the looks. The price, vehicle range and performance all would work for me.
it's giving back some of those gains today. be interesting to see how the week ends for Tesla.

I am still waiting to see how that upgraded self driving computer works. Been paid for 8 months back.
Govt has subsidized all types of industry including oil & gas ... a lot of the back and forth is bs / posturing ....
Is an ev totally green? No but on the balance it is greener than an equivalent ice vehicle ...
Good to hear real user opinion and reports and look forwatd to hearing more.

I'll be selling the wife's EV since she passed away. Doesn't work for me, although some people obviously like them.
