G4 oil consumption..loves her oil

Had breakin down To 30 percent and lost a motor, so breakin reset, out last ride we got back before low fuel light and it looks over 1/2 tank of oil used

It seams we went threw more oil on this sled than the turbos combined, running same liters, also see exhaust black marks in snow after most wot stabs, will this be a Norm with this sled or does it clean up!!

talking with baker his new cat is using a third the oil, and this motor was preached by brp to be much better than the etec 800 for oil use..

oil and fuel cost not that far apart for a days riding it seams

I haven't ridden my 2017 enough to get a good comparison but I was told by the dealer that the oil use would be similar to the 800 after break in Doo decided to stay with more oil until they get a better handle on engine reliability in the mountain machines. Fyi

Wow that can get spendy $$$ Last trip out I forgot my oil on the shelf in my garage. I paid $73 for a jug.

600km on the mountain cat and almost through my first jug of oil.

Just like the XMs, they chug it during break in. Without actually measuring, Id guess I'm roughly on par with the 800. Not what they originally promised in the spring when they came out.
The tank is smaller then the xm, so take that into consideration when comparing.

Lol, if that was my 850 we would of used not far off 15 litres, might have to cut it back some with candoo if this keeps up.. Guys we were out with this last week said there poos are 40-1 as well

if we listened to brp they said this motor was much better than the older Etec but not turning out that way yet..

Model year 4 on the 850 will be a good year.

That would be a negative comment Fred....not allowed
My 17 was harder on oil than my 2014 - 800 etec but not by much.
Got a bit better after break.

Buy the oil - Jose' needs the holiday money.

I don't think the money is of concern to him, more so the false advertising.

a jug of oil a day is equivalent to a belt every 3 days. Who would think thats acceptable?

Was the crank case pretty clean when you pulled that engine apart?

This was mentioned by the dealer, when they took apart, said there was more oil then usual and built up in pools on bottom end, maybe this oil consumption was related to problem, Now it seams to be using same amount or even more than before..

why I have been wondering if this cleans up after Break-in, can there be any harm in using double the oil it needs..

I burn about half the oil tank per tank of fuel.

Oil consumption on these is atrocious.

I calculated mine to run between 18:1 and 20:1.

Easily twice as much oil as the 800. For every dollar of gas I’m spending almost as much on oil.

1300 km and 9 jugs in already. Opened and poured out half of jug #10 today.
My buddy’s arctic cat has the same mileage and is on jug #4

Yes it’s an expensive sport but this is unreasonable.

2017 850 - if i burn a whole tank of fuel it will burn half a tank of oil. I fill up every ride as 2 big days would be pushing my luck.. Premium is $1.55/litre in Golden, pour it in, squeeze the throttle..
