Forgive my ignorance on the subject. And I haven’t necessarily read the whole thread. I can’t comment on the oil consumption on my 17 due to lack of hard miles. But is there no way to turn down the oiling rate on these if it’s using stupid amounts like the 18:1 stated? Wether it be on buds or mechanically?

I would say warrenty would become a question if that route was taken, similar to when timing is advanced via BUDS.

I am thinking they turned it up from 17 to 18 for a reason, cause no one really mentioned oil consumption last year.

Buy why?

Good points. If it takes that much oil just to keep these running I would say that’s pretty much the last coffin nail.

Buddies 18' doesn't use nearly the oil that you guys are using. He has just finished break-in at around 400km and has only just cracked his second jug.

I would hope there wouldn’t be any renegade dealers that would play games like that. Could see a manufacturer bumping up an oil mixture in an attempt to save motors though. Especially a new one

My 17 drank a crap load of oil. 25 jugs for 3600 km

I’m on jug 11 at 1450 km on my 18

That is one liter every 30km?
Can yo even burn a tank of fuel without adding oil???
It has got to leave a trail of black from exhaust

What is the correct oil pump rate then for 18 850? Just had some issues and would like to know that the dealer set it to spec.

I’m not sure. Sorry to derail the thread. But when I raced moto I ran 60:1. Just because it was easy I ran 40:1 free riding bikes Never had a issue. My 800 etecs I never had issues either. 3 tanks of liberal riding to oil fill up. With some easy miles the 850 seems pretty bad. Loving the chassis though.

Fairly certain it isn't a fixed rate. Etecs always seems to use more oil when you are heavier on the throttle.

Let's not forget Doo has also stated that due to the amount of owners who choose not to run the recommended ETEC oil they decided to up the amount of oil that the engine uses in order to ensure proper lubrication. So instead of harping on Doo look to the owners who seem to think that any oil is just fine and that oil is oil. Guys will buy turbo's, high end shocks/ complete suspensions, wraps, powder coat yet moan and moan about having to buy Doo oil and that they can save $10 a jug on xxxx brand oil. So the end result is more oil useage to go with the 4 yr warranty for Doo to protect their engines.

Either this is sarcasim or a long winded pile of horsechit.

Every engine prior to and every other OE motor runs just fine on same rated 2smoker oil as per OE recommendations.
What a crock o crap defense.

Snowcheck is getting closer!

You should take your sled in and tell them to turn the oil pump down by half since your using the right oil.............

I'm not a cry baby. Like warranty and honestly it is a non issue for me. Top the oil up after every ride. Life is good and sled is a blast.
