For those of you who are not in the field, see attached Demo day next week. Hopefully I will be done, if the weather clears!

I got to drive the 9870 for a couple hours tonight. Once I passed the case, I was finally able to push it to see what it could do. WOW! That is a nice combine! It is set up with the 635 john deere draper header, and I was able to push it to 5-5.5 mph on a 80 bushel barley crop with tough straw. Just for comparison, the 9760 with 36' honey bee header was going 3.5-4, and the Case 9120 with a 36' honey bee was only able to get up to 4.5. That being said, I don't think the case is running up to par, as it seems to lose power rather quickly.
The 9870 that they brought out for us to demo, has "smart drive" I believe it's called, so that you can push the hydrostat all the way forward and the combine worries about the rest. Not technology that I fully trust yet, but in a nice even field, it would be a nice option to have.
The Case does leave a cleaner sample then the JD, but with 1 mph difference, and both throwing over the same amount, that's not something to get too concerned about IMO.
Overall, they are both good combines. The Case needs to learn that the steering wheel should be directly in front of the seat, and not 4 inches to the side of the seat. It would also be nice if the unloading auger on the case came ahead farther so one doesnt have to look back at, but instead look straight out the window at it.
It's really to bad that the case isn't performing as well as it could, but I kinda think that that just goes to show what kinda service the Case dealer in Drumheller has.

There's my 2 cents on these combines. Green is still King.

I think if the Case dealer was serious about selling a combine he would be making sure the unit was running at optimum performance especially when running a demo head to head with the competition. It's hard not to like the Deere though. There is a reason they are the class of the field.:D:D:smiliestirthepot:

No doubt about it, they should have it running right. And when they brought it back to the field, it was going good, but then it started to stumble and went downhill from there.

That's for sure. The case salesman brought us beer out to the field the last time he was out. I asked if he was trying to get us drunk so we would buy his combine. He didnt like that very much...

Very few buttons on the dash, very very easy to set up, had a 40ft head on in wheat and 5mph, very quiet, header auto-hight and all that, like going through ruts and uneven ground the header stayed level on the ground. Hydraulic hopper topper fold out/in and when folded in it's water tight. The whole separator system is just amazing, smooth feeding, like if you get a lump or something you would never know it whent though, all belt driven and very simple system. It's just over all a fanominal machine, visibility is just awesome!!!!

Thats hilarious!! We've done the same thing at our farm for probably 25 plus years now. Back to the combine wars. What combine chewed up the caps the best? The Deere or the Case? HaHa!!

Ha just used our own combines to finish the harvest. Put them through the 9760.
Noticed that the case revs out at 2100 rpm, and the low engine alarm comes on at 2000 rpm. The 9870 revs out at 2300, and the alarm also comes on at 2000. That's 200 more rpms to play with.......

More torque in the Deere engine. Thats gotta be a pain with the Case pulling a hill with a big hopper. Any alarm that comes on when you don't expect it can be abit unnerving.

You'd be surprised, we had 3 case combine in 1 field with hills and full hopper youd never know it (besides grain spilling)
