Which truck antenna's do you think are best for the radio, the straight whips that are about 45" or the shorter onrs that are about 22" that have the black part in th3 middle?

This guy from Camrose makes a good TRAM knock off, tell him the frequency you need and he will cut the radial to length.
Ships Canada Post, reasonably priced.

It uses the same mic as the baofeng does, I am going to try out a few of them that look like my 60 dollar one that works darn good, maybe I can save you 40 bucks. I have been out sledding going again tomorrow, I usually don't take the radios sledding with me. I will try and get it done soon, to bad you were not here most people are not interested at all in this type of stuff.

GOOD POST SKEG. I have a Baofeng UVB2 coming this week. 8 watts 4800mah battery. I normally run a GT3 mark 2. Needed a new battery for it so ordered two more of the same that came with a spare battery. Both sold to friends in a couple days. So far in the last 3 days I have programed all the RR frequencies into 4 hard wired truck radios and 3 hand helds. All done manually. Thanks for the info on your programing. I also wrote up programing instructions for all the different radios I did this week. Lot easier to understand than deciphering the original manuals (for me). Now I am starting to learn how to name the channels. Will make it easier to see RR 3 than channel 3 etc. Ladd 1 etc. I also encourage people to buy the dual band hand helds rather than FRS-GMRS CB I buy on Ebay usually--seller - nichone--he now ships from Montreal--about 4 days overall. I also run hard wired in my truck and jeep --antennas inside most of the time-mag mount. hand held has longer antenna and adapter for external antenna. Been playing with this stuff for a few years but just getting into actually programming them in simplex mode. I also check Ham Radio reviews to check products out.

Oh man programing from the faceplate is painful, once you download chirp you will love it.
Make your program once and then you can dump it into any radio in seconds.
Looking forward to the review on the UVB2.

Use the radios all the time when quadding and sxs ing. We tree ride mostly so we learn to keep together, stop hit the spots... re group and move on. I Pack unreal navigation stuff though.

Oh man I can't believe a radio guy like you doesn't carry a radio lol.
The 8watters work unreal in the trees.
Really cuts down on confusion.
But if your group has been riding for a long time without them I can understand that.
My group definetly wouldn't do as well.

Haha we will be talking truck to truck with 50watts or better. And just remember guys not all the forest roads have switched to the RR channels there are still a lot of them that are on the old channels. All those logging spur roads that have the old names still on the signs.... you had better believe that is the frequency they are using.

Hi Skegpro. I have a bit of advice on programming. Only share a CSV file and not an image file. Image files can only be imported to a radio with the same firmware as the radio it came from. For example, if you use CHIRP and save your image from a UV-82hp and try to load it onto a UV-5R you could brick the radio.

I have also contacted a board member on the BCSF and asked if they could discuss and channel / frequency to use for emergencies. If they decide on a frequency to use then it is set in stone and everyone can use the same frequency. There are a lot of sledders carrying radios now. I think this is a very valid safety concern.

I use GT-3TP and they have been pretty good so far over the last 3 years. They are an 8 watt radio on high setting and are water resistant. The antennas that come with them are pretty decent but the Nagoya NA-771 are better. I got these from http://Baofengtech.com I got my radios off of ebay for around $60 CDN each with a mic and a programming cable. Ive bought 8 of them so far for our riding group.

Awesome point.
I'll delete the images and just leave the .CSV file.
Can you bring up the National ATV Cordnation Frequency to them, maybe they will adopt it?
Either that or 146.460 MHz seems to be the unofficial offroad frequency. But it gets lots of chatter in some popular jeep areas.

This I kinda how I invision this working.
Channel A on monitor.
Channel B active talk.
This way someone is always listening.
If your in trouble start broadcasting on Channel A help.
Might also be worth reaching out to SAR as this would make their life alot easier if they can reach you by VHF.

Is there a way to disable the ptt on radio when a mic is mic is installed. we keep getting false transmissions when they are in our Bca avy packs.
