You bet I ride with a tether....too many things can go wrong. Unfortunately, my sled didn't come standard with one, my hubby installed it on my M8 and also on our son's M6. Can't wear it around my wrist though, it keeps getting in the way of the handlebar.....hook it on to the d-ring on the left side of my jacket and it works great. When we stop I just unplug the tether and it stays with me.

As far as I'm concerned, EVERY sled should come standard with one!!

What?? LOL Your insurance?

yes, my insurance. Not everyone has insurance on sleds , my policy will cover damage by an uninsured driver.

Insurance is tricky and I am lucky enough to have parents that work in the industry.

I always ride with my teather on, i dont need my sled going onto the highway, through a barbwire fence, or into a tree. Stuck throttles can lead to disaster, i dont need my insurance rates going up. Its just common sense. Like catpride said its just like a seat belt.

nice...
why are you so worried about my tether. its my choice move on.

yes it is your choice, but keep in mind when we criticize you on your choice:nono: its because were concerned :( ]
were just looking out for your, our, and everyone else's safety.
Also were trying to keep property damage from happening.

You can say whatever you want back, but the majority of us try to help out another snowmobiler in need. Whether it be someone on the side of the trail, or someone in the forums.

Thought i would just post this as thought it would be something to think about .
It was started over on Snow West.
Some people will know who Iam talking about.

With the new fuel injected sleds i think it is even more important due to the fact that they can run upside down just as well .
Back when the RXL came out with FI a fellow was going down a hill that was icy and sled got out of control and pitched him.
The sled went down the hill upside down with him sliding after it. When the sled stopped he landed feet first into the sled with one leg getting picked up between the track and the tunnel.
Sled was wide open as throttle was pinched open with the way everything went.
So this sled had paddles and ran wide open with his leg in tunnel and burnt his leg off.
You get the picture, not nice. I wasn't there but sled with the fellow from time to time and he only has one leg and rides well.
The people that were there at the time will tell you it wasn't nice sitting waiting for the chopper and the smell was sickening.
Just something to think about?

2 years ago I wish I had. I had an 04 Mountain Viper, And yes this was a STUPID idea and 100% my fault. anyways we were riding the Judy Creek pipe line, 30 some kilometres in my throttle cable snaps. Not wanting to be towed out and laughed at for being the only Yamaha I took the spare rip cord, tied it to the carb linkage, ran the rope up through the hood and wrapped it tightly around my left hand, 10km's closer to the truck we had to cross a big section of mud and road, I lost my balance (I was standing) and fell off, now the sled is wide open and I'm tied to it dragging across the mud, thankfully it wasn't a long ride, smoked the approach and the sled went airborne which somehow ripped the glove off my hand. I still rode back to the trucks that way, but I was wishing hard I had a teather.

I would also help a riding partner or friendly stranger retrieve his sled, and I also have insurance, But if all this happened when the throttle stuck wide open, and they had a tether... I would first call him a dumbass,(not the stranger LOL) then help them retrieve his sled, and they would pay for my sled if they hit me...no questions asked... and they would probably offer to buy me beers later that night.. LOL No sense making MY rates go up.
Doesen't matter who you are or who your parents are, your rating will change after a claim.

Holy folks thread has taken off and like alot have said it is up to you to decide weather or not to use a device that kills the sled if you should fall off or throttle sticks.
If any of us sharing some experience that we know of or have had saves the hurt of someone or something that is what it was intended to do.
It just makes you think of what could happen!

Just checked this afternoon;
I noticed my throttle was sticky when in deeep snow.
I thought it was the ice buildup between the lever and the lever block..

I just noticed that the throttle cable is frayed and unravelled, thus causing the cable to not retract fully.
Could have been a chitty outcome.... someone would have to tow my azz back to the truck...

Always wear mine, cord is long enough on one of my keys to stand behind the sled, the new key is shorter but that does not matter. I wear it while loading, unloading, to many stories of family friends that have gotten hurt pretty bad because of not having one on.
