did it knock you off or did ya jump takes just as long to hit the kill switch on the bars as it does to jump. shouldnt have the rubber on the kill switch to prevent it from getting bumped? jk. chit happens i guess. but i have a hard time havin fun when the movement is so limited. even if i tie it to my waist on the tether side my cord is to short.

Well not being ready I did try to stop it but lost control and I crashed as well, only small cuts to me and a few big bruises.
I was unable to hit the kill switch..

it has nothing to do with running away. in fact most efi sleds have a tps to prevent startup runnaways which carb sleds do not. so one could say an efi sled has a smalller chance of running away than a carb sled.

that being said a carb sled will run away just like an efii sled. the difference is a carb sled wont chainsaw overtop of you like an efi sled will if rolled. THIS is my main concern and the only reason i would wear a tether on an efi sled.

maybe my day will come that my throttle pins magically and i fall off. sending my machine into the deep woods. i will post photos and you can LOLOL all day.

im not against tethers no one can argue the safety. and i am seriously considering a tethair. its the cord that has me worried. and thats my opinion only.

I will add my limited :twocents: to this.
From what I was told the TPS tells the computer as well as throttle cable.
This being said when the TPS reads no throttle it idles.

What happened to me is the tree twisted the left hand throttle and pulled the regular throttle to wide open. Thus TPS and cable being WOT.

I could be totally wrong so I will STFU....

Reading about the limited movement, just went into the shop to see how far i get get with it on. I cant stand behind the sled but i can have my feet at the rear wheels. I can walk at least 2 feet from the side. I can lean all the way to one side and still not have it come off.

thts with a warm coily cord though they get alot shorter when cold
they dont stretchy as much. lol

no your right. if the sled is runnning and the throttle is mashed whether it be by left hand throttle or not. the sled will still go full bore. the tps will only prevent the sled from departing WOT from a cold start. engine off

I installed a tether this fall, and am in the process of turning the wearing it into a habit, it has pulled off once while dangling off the oposited side it's mounted on. Wasn't a high speed shutdown or anything drastic, more funny than anything.
Maybe I am alone on this, but, the motivation for installing a tether for me was more to protect other people than me and my sled. My throttle jams open and the sled smashes a tree, over time I could prob laugh about it. If it jammed and hit someone, or someone elses shiz......would be pretty hard to forgive/forget my ignorance.

pistonbroke that thread was just about forgotten thx for pulling it up again !!! grrrrr

i learned my lesson big time

all i can tell u maxwell is if u dont wear one u better pray every time before u go for a ride cause none of ure explanations justify not wearing one

if u really think u cant move ure sled arround when wearing one than put another tether coil rope on so u got double the length seen it lots of times

I rode with Maxwell over the holidays, a tether would definitely get yanked off accidentally with his style of riding.

If his sled rockets off down a cliff I would help him retrieve it, if it ran into my sled WOT that what I have insurance for:d

Too many vids on youtube to not wear one.

I have a carabiner and click it on my jacket front. NEVER had it fail while riding.. unless i fell off and the sled FAR AWAY.

Maxwell..
I had an incident when I took a friends sled for a short ride in area 51. I was eyeing up a hill to take a poke at and didn't see an unfilled creekbed.

I fell backwards, activating his lefty throttle (which is the lamest mod IMO) with my left foot, while falling to the right with my upper body beside the track.

The track could have chewed my arm or head off.

Luckily I used his tether, which was still attached to the sled.... to kill the motor. it was right side up and DIGGING AND DIGGING. I tried to get my leg off the lefty, but with the seat in the way, it wasn't happening. SCARY.

Have a track spinning beside your head @50 MPH, and you would think different.

It was a stupid moment for me, but that was 10 years ago. I think that it would have been worse with bigger lugs or more HP in today's sleds..

maxell, I installed the Teth-air for this season and I like it. Got 250 miles so far and its worked everytime I've fallen off. Worth the money I think. I dont like the corded tether switches because the trees catch on them sometimes...safe riding everyone!!!

I just had my sled runaway on me a week ago. tether wasn't attached and throttle got stuck open... took off at 9K rpm and smashed into a big tree. Not cool in the least bit.
