i wear mine all the time,it is a pain in some situations...I'd rather have the pain in some situations than the sled getting away on me and smashing it,or hitting a person/ppl and/or there sleds...Seen it happen in Vale with Fossy, was a crappy situation.and both guys were done on the 1st day.

I can honestly say that in 15+ years of riding I have never worn a tether. I have had many sled with them, but always wrapped them around the bars. With the DESS chips, I have found them to be fussy and a slight pull or turn makes the sled go into limp mode or quit. This seemed dangerous when I was having one of those rodeo rides, trying to climb out of the impossible.

Now that I have heard of a few throttle stick stories, I will start wearing mine. For the first time ever, I had my wife's machine idle up unexpectedly when I was sitting on the side of it. I just stepped off of it and watch as it lawn darted into a small creek gully that required lots of digging to get it out.

This thread got a few of my buddies talking about it and it turns out one guy had just installed a lefty throttle and it stuck when he started the machine. The sled rocketed into the back of his vehicle and almost crushed someone. His kid was standing there seconds before. A tether would have stopped it. I guess these things are more common that I realized.

theres 15000 users on this site and only a ten responses that said yes i wear my tether. where is the other 15000? just because i was te first to admit it doesnt mean im the only one!

ill remember next tiem next time one of you goofs starts a thread to give an opinion on the idioticy of it

Sorry Max but ur opinion and excuses for why you don't have one kinda pissed me off sorry for the name callin.:d I would think with all the bad publicity the sport has gotten everyone would try to go a little harder with their efforts to make it a safe sport completly like not just where and when you ride but the safe operating condition of your machine and PPE. I really enjoy alot of your posts and I ride XP so I am very aware of your expertise with yours and the mods wicked sled all I would add is a TETHAIR or just a good old TETHER.

Great post!!!

My tether annoyed me when it kept getting wrapped around the handle bars when sidehilling. Then my sled ended up high in some trees with the cooler ripped out, and I was stuck in a treewell 40' down the bank from the sled while my sled was still running.

I made an extension for my tether before the next ride. I took a nylon lanyard, with a cilp at each end, then cut it in the middle and sewed in a buckle from a backpack. It added about 12" to the length, and the buckle is easy to undo with gloves on.

Now I don't even move my sled without it. I've made lots of these for friends too. Thinking of getting some mass-produced :)

I haven't read the whole thread to see if anyone mentioned this way but I made a loop at the end of my tether and wrap it around my left wrist rather than on my coat. My hand won't leave the bars and I hang off my sled a lot and haven't had it come off yet. Just an idea. Can't make people wear them.

CUSO posted up some u-tube clips for reasons to wear a tether. Much earlier in the thread I posted up Pis why to wear a tether.. The question asked was "Do you ride with a tether/" Maxwell said no he does not. he gave some reasons why do feels he doesn't need one. Everyone gang bangs him for not wearing one, but no one sees that he mentioned that he was going to install a teth-air. Let's stop beating up on Maxwell and get back on topic.
I have to agree that this thread brought up some go discussing and I hope that it keeps up.

JUST BACK OFF BEATING UP MAXWELL

Re: Do you ride with your teather hooked to yourself?

don't use it all the time in Saskatchewan. Just when we get to a place to play around. I where it all the time out west.

I find when riding around with a case of beer on my lap and one in my left hand that is probably when i should wear it the most.LOL.But seriously now Left hand throtles are stupid and are probably the number one cause of stuck throttle incidents. I say we ban left hand throttles cuse people who need them are pussies. Man it sure did blizard down here in Brooks and now im going for a ride.
