talked to a buddy that said all people i know are out but still very bad up there, hard to beleive this is happening. i feel horrible for everyone up there right now and what they are going through.

200 people on the mountain that day.. 50-60 in the area of the slide

and i very much hope and pray that the 25deaths is a miscount!!!

and wish the media would frick off
they need to get the right info as others have said

I got the email from Global News as well. News seems to blow this out a bit. Lets just worry about getting some valid information here and praying that the injuries and fatalities are minimal. Im sure there are alot of very worried people right now.

Terrible news and the worst possible thing that could happen at this event. It would be appreciated if people would avoid speculating or reiterating innacurate reports of the count until search and rescue have released a statement of accuracy. None of the family members will appreciate hearing anything until official.

Condolences to the families of those lost. Very sad day.

vancouver — revelstoke is on edge tonight awaiting word after a massive avalanche struck boulder mountain in the revelstoke area late saturday afternoon.

About 200 people were attending an annual snowmobiling event known as 'the big iron shoot out', in the turbo bowl area on boulder mountain, when the slide occurred.

"the slide was really wide and deep. About 20 to 30 people are still unaccounted for," said clayton berlingette, who operates the smokey bear campground resort in the region.

Berlingette said he had been snowmobiling in the same area himself earlier in the day and "playing it safe" due to an avalanche warning that had been issued.

A group of snowmobilers staying at the campground were among those who attended the competition that afternoon.

"with so many people at the bottom, it was a recipe for disaster," berlingette said in reference to the 200 people attending the event.

He said people are gathering tonight and awaiting updates in the wake of a large-scale rescue operation.

"we can confirm that one person is dead and that 12 people have been injured," cpl. Dan moskaluk told the vancouver sun, noting that the b.c. Amublance service is saying three people were killed in the avalanche.

Moskaluk said a tremendous number of emergency rescue assets have been deployed.

"there are currently four provincial search and rescue teams deployed; revelstoke, golden, arrow lakes and nelson. The rcmp police service avalanche trained canine units along side with other provincial emergency assets have been engaged. Revelstoke rcmp continue to coordinate the rescue effort in conjunction with the provincial emergency coordination center," moskaluk said in a news release.

"we request that the general public keep the area and nearby highways clear for the ongoing rescue effort," moskaluk said.

Wow this is horrible. My hearts go out to those who have lost and who are still waiting to hear from loved ones.

I knew some friends were there, and for the fifteen minutes it took to find out they are ok, I had a huge lump in my throat. Can't be easy for anyone.
