The world's largest diesel engine is 2-stroke, it has a maximum speed of 120 rpm making 107,000 hp and 5.6 million ft lbs of torque, and injects 5.6 ounces of fuel per stroke.

Ya I know, but the 99% of the modern diesels that anyone is able to purchase is a 4-stroke. If you want to take all the one off's like loco's and steamships, well....

Do you know what frame size your turbo is? Are you running like a 3000 series garrett? Just wondering if there is much to be gained by running something larger than the GT2860RS I have.

normally uses a 2871. He was experimenting with a 3000 series. Mostly likely you are correct. The bigger exhaust wheel makes boost later but it’s more fluid transition and doesn’t give up anything at elevation.

8lbs+ of "boost" over and above the 14.7 in the manifold is what you want - there is no comparison - 3lbs is only for limping it down the trail - speaking from real world experience

That's what I was wondering, the 2860 has pretty good spoolup, but I'm thinking it comes along with higher drive pressure which would loose power. Might have to throw a drive pressure gauge on it one day.

Is an interesting read for most parts. What is the verdict now that the 20-21 season is over and we are heading into the 21-22 season. I know that some folks opinions may have changed.
A friend of mine has owned turbo prolaris, Yamaha sidewinder with a tune added and now owns a T 850 Doo, stock other then some clutching and really likes it.

I think it all depends on personal preference, I'm getting pretty old have have zero interest in any sort of wrenching but still want a good performing sled with warranty. Stock is the only way I would go but I can understand why lots would want the better performance of after market, especially if your a tuner at heart.

There are lots of smart builders of turbos sleds, and make them run very well and reliable. There is just something about a factory turbo as well that’s more appealing to myself, that’s why I now own a turbo.

Being a mechanic by trade I like the aftermarket kits. There is more room for higher output if you want to spend the cash on good fuel. Also they come with intercoolers which is huge for prolonged w/o throttle, keep those intake temps down and extend reed life. I really like the Boondocker box and old XIC that Neil used, they allowed tuning the fuel to what the engine liked on the fly since no two engines ever fuel the same.
