Like Imdoo'n I have no issues with guns or hunting etc etc. Been around it all my life. BUT, I personally do not see any reason to have a gun that was made for the US military into civilian's hands particularly one that can hold over 100 rounds like the one used in the Colorado shootings last week. I am sure most of you would have the same opinion if a loved one was killed by one of these guns. Banning them will not stop lunatics doing this sort of killings but, maybe save 1 innocent life as the person had a chance to get away, instead of being peppered with bullets. By the way, I realize they are prohibited in Canada.... I am referring to US.

i have no problem at all with shooting sports, rifles, shot guns. or hunters either, just seems like a lot of peeps think they need ak47 style guns. can you explain why the fine fellow leaving the gun range out at penhold felt he needed more practice shooting his gun at a kids play house, just east of the gun range. i'm sure you came to his defense?

I can't believe I'm arguing with an idiot on the internet, are you trying to drag me down to your level and beat me with experience? You can thank me late for restoring your faith in humanity.
No one is condoning illegal activities. Please show me where your scary AK47 has been used illegally in Canada. Even in the US which has far less stringent controls of these firearms (all types) they accounted for 1/5 of one percent (.20) of the firearms used in violent crime.
I'm a little concerned with your projecting when you think of the mayhem caused by firearms and hope you don't own any.

don't want too burst the bubble ya live in, but alot of the semi autos don't take much to turn into full auto, at least what i've seen or read. red flame seems like they can do just about anything. maybe they're just faking it. if semi auto/ fuly auto weapons were not produced, then how ya think crimminals would get them, or be able to sell em. pools get serious dud! maybe ya should campaign for your right to drink and drive, and swim in yer pool drunk.

Dude, you fail

Just like there are different brands of sleds, there are different brands and styles of guns so an "ak47" type gun is just one of those. Just because it looks scary, means we should ban it? I actually want a CZ 858 (what the legal canadian couterpart is called) because cheap surplus ammo, no maintenance required fun :) it will make a great addition to my collection not to mention the fact that it looks freaking awesome!

cool, your right we will never end crime, but i'm thinkin cutting access to these types of weapons will help. may not stop but easy access can be eliminated.

Again, creating more restrictive gun laws will only take the guns out of Law abiding citizens hands, NOT the Criminals hands. In fact it would probably put MORE in the hands of criminals.

It doesnt matter what laws you put in place, If a criminal wants it he'll find a way to get it. Banning it will only stop people from defending themselves. And if a loved one got shot, i would still own guns and i would still advocate for more CC why? because you can't blame the tool. The gun does not get tried for committing murder. The person who used it does. Banning guns to try and stop murder is like banning cars to stop collisions. Get the idiot out from behind whatever caused the problem in the first place, be that drunk driving or shootings. The problem is the criminals not the items they use.

And I would rather my loved ones defend themselves, because after all if we had this attitude in the forties we'd all be speaking German.

Exactly!!!!!! Never heard of a criminal abiding by the law...

this debate is as useless a one as religion, drugs, prostitutes etc. There will always be people for or against. I say most stuff should be legal and regulated to TRY and control consumption, purchase etc. Just because you legalize something doesn't mean crime or abuse will go out the window, but chances are just because it's legal too doesn't mean everyone is going to all of a sudden run out and buy every gun out there, get a hooker and do some blow. Yes some people will, but chances are most people won't.

If a human being wants something badly enough, they will find a means to get it period.

I think we should just ban people that want to continually ban things all the time....:nono: Would make life a little bit simpler by removing their narrow minded naive input. You can implement that idea how you see fit.:smiliestirthepot:

This letter was a good read, although it applies to the states more so than here since we can't carry

"The Gun Is Civilization" by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

By Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret.)

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced.

Good read, but we forgot about GUILT! ...although I guess that qualifies as force in some relationships.

you will never stop the luanatics from doing there thing, but maybe we can save one life by not making it easy for them to get these guns. this guy may have used a bomb or whatever, but got his hands on an assault rifle. had his house boobie trapped, he was a nut case.

Would it help if I said I was sorry?? I was weak, I posted while I was dealing with UPS customer service.

You are letting emotion be the argument but have no facts to back anything up you say. Please go look up Hyperbole.
