Thanks guys, gonna have to do something because the “hit” went unnoticed to myself still cannot remember a simple bump even.

Did you guys find the crack?

Worst part is the factory cheap plastics didn’t break or puncture to even show any damage had been done.

So I do have a seperate problem other then my chaincase repair going on, I have the 50th edition snowmobile cover which is really nice, but........ with the exterior intake and the new longer mountain pro bumper she’s too short. I’m looking for recommendations to just add some length (section) to the rear and a Intake pocket/pouch so i can use it and not remove my intake or bumper.

Are you sure this is not a lack of oil issue causing the chain to stretch and take out the case? My 2018 50th sidewinder doesn't have enough oil from the factory to even read on th sight glass. I am pissed as I drove for 2 days before I did an inspection

I’m not a 100%, I still don’t believe I hit anything but the dealer says it’s “impact”. A bunch of people I have spoken too share your theory on the damage. But what does a guy do now?

Might be worth to install a chaincase cover. They are making one for the drop and roll now.

Yamaha makes a 1/4” thick skid plate which I ordered to cover the bottom. I’ve seen some 2-3” aluminum 3/16” - 1/4” plate flatbar with 2 bends and bolt holes. Incredibly simple to make. I may put that over top my skid plate so I’ll have the stock garbage plastic cover, plus plastic skid plate plus an aluminum plate over top both plastics so I’ll have to smash a rock to do any damage.

That is quite the setup in the chaincase. Wonder how much weight a guy would save going to a belt drive on one of these? You would lose reverse but if you could live with that looks like quite bit of weight to be lost.

Its an UGLY chain case. IMO the worst part of this machine. Yamaha/Arctic Cat designers would had been a lot better using an updated version of the diamond drive. I would had love to see a beefed up version of one, they are simple and it completely eliminate's the use of all these components and jackshaft. The weight lost would be substantial.

I guess I should have, I already ordered $2000 in parts to replace everything except the drive axle and drivers.

All sprockets, bearings, both cases, chains, upper shaft, reverse gear, tensioner.


If it somehow gets damaged again I’ll be looking at different options.

So what are you doing for armour now?

I was looking at the plastic guard on mine, I don't entirely buy the dealers theory that you hit something. Its pretty thick plastic, is should definitely be deformed or have a scar in it.
