I've ridden my cousins stock nytro and own a ETEC. The nytro has a awesome ride on the trail, and has lots of top end speed. Havent raced it against my ETEC yet, but once my old REV got to top speed the nytro would pull past me no problem. If you are looking for something to rip around on the flats with, than go with the Nytro. (cant believe I just said that  )
Went to the mountains with my cousin and a friend. Buddy has a summit hillclimb edition and he really likes to climb. Went and made a highmark on his sled on a hill that noone else had been on, and than took the nytro to see how it compared with the same rider. Stock Nytro against Stock Summit. Summit went twice as high.

1. Didn't know anyone who rode an 800e-Tec for three weeks last year. They were only out to test dealers for short periods of time. Was it an 800R non-e-tec, a 600 e-Tec, or what/how?
2. Watched the proto e-Tec 800 154 clearly out run a decent turbo'd "only" Nitro in North Dore late last season. e-Tec about $15,000, Nitro about $20,000, needing another $7000 to $10,000 of parts added in to show it's worth. I've got respect for them fully done up, but the question then becomes one of bucks.
3. The e-Tec ate up the whole playground the two days I rode with it, and came back with full fuel in it's caddy. The Nitro ran to and stayed at the first decent competition hill it found. How long can you run the Turbo on it's tank of fuel, and then where do you not get to go while others are carving up the back-country??
4. I believe it becomes a matter of which kind of fun you are looking for, and for what price.....

I really hope you weren't riding in the North Dore because if I'm not mistaken isn't this a closed area since the summer of 2009. Just a ref. from the Mcbride sled club president in a post on it.

It now is a caribou closure. I can give you a map to show you the area that is closed.

Yes, please do PM me on that.
Looked for and saw no signs, followed a good number of tracks in with our own group. OOOPS.
No Caribou.

yep. thats obviously the consensus.

but now we arent comparing factory rides anymore. we are talking about a 25-30,000$ machine vs a stock etec?

uhh?

I think you can pick up a 2010 Nytro 162" with the MC express 180hp kit for just a hair over $17,000. Thats not much more than a new e-tech. No reason to spend $25-30000 if you don't want to.

ya so now at 17,000 they maybe equal sleds.

as soon as you go above the 180hp kit your going to be looking at upgrading tracks, suspension, and engine components also. not to mention monitoring and electronics.

Its all personal preference. I had a 2009 Xp, and now running a 2010 Nytro 162 with the MCX 180 kit. Its un believable the power a turbo makes. It all depends on your riding style and ability. At the end of the day you are making the payments on it and have to ride it. Both are good sleds. Like stated before, look at your options and ideas you may have in mind.

I dunno. I have seen 2010 Nytro 162 SE for $11999 plus the turbo at $4499. So for $16498 plus tax you have a pretty sweet sled. What does one of them 'Freestyles' run a guy now a days? And if you wanna save more money, Ive seen 2009 for $9499 plus all the suspension upgrades. I think people should do some homework.

Which one would be the better purchase? I have an 08 XP. Thinking of getting a new sled - Yamaha Nitro or Skidoo Summit X Etech - which would you buy? and why?

Thanks!

This was the original question. he was asking which one would you buy? Several stated they actually "own" both. Doesn't seem to matter to the haters......they all have their opinion. :p
he didn't ask which one would go higher, go faster, go farther etc etc . he was aksin which one would be a better purchase for him
So define "better"......better on reliability, better on belts, better on clutches, better on oil, better on durability, better on trail, better off trail, better ride quality, better on a monday morning, better deep snow, better boondocker, better get'r to the shop, better at what??

FYI....... nytro 2008/9 versus2010/11 are as different as an XRS and XP are.

No worries folks.........just go out and RIDE whatever you PRIDE :)
