Hi Guy's, I'm new on snow and mud, have been on snowest for some years, I like the content of Snow and Mud, has got me interested in chatting to sledders again on line. I live in the Okanagan and sled locally I also take trips to Revelstoke, Eagles Pass and Enderby quite regulary. I started on a Mountain Max then to a 900 mod cat, Turbo Vector, Turbo Apex and for the past two years I've been riding a mod Xp 154. I love the Xp but I just can't get reliable hp's out of her or the torque, The 900 cat gave me a taste of power then I proceeded to the turbos. I have been studying the 09 M1000 162, It seems to be a popular sled for riders that are over 170 lbs and love high marking, boon docking and deep powder. I don't want a heavy four stroke or the cost of turboing one. How reliable is the M1000 and how much tunning do you need to do when riding 5,000-8,000 feet with the aftermarket pipe and fuel controller set up. I have experience tuning my sleds and enjoy doing it but at the same time I don't want a sled that makes me work too much on the weekend or costs $500 to chopper out of the bush. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Call Glen @ spindrift motorsports in Mc Bride, a wealth of info and that is his ride I believe. He rents and owns both.

I have owned my M1000 from new, it is a 2007 with a 162" track. This has been an excellent sled but there are some things that have to be delt with. The clutching is to be desired and you do need to vent everything and get the alignment checked or you will eat belts. If you buy a 2008 and older with the mechanical reverse it is best to go through your diamond drive every fall as I consider this to be wise pre maintenence, last year I had a small bearing that was on the verge of siezing and it cost me under $10.00 to replace but it would not have been fun on the hill to fix. I geared mine to M8 gears and that was excellent because I ran a 174" track. I also run the boondocker box with a y pipe and can and I put the larger air plenum from a snow pro sled. The thing I found is once I had it dialed in all I do is pull the rope and ride. The biggest improvement by far was the RKT head that I put on last year but if it is -20 ish you better have your buddies help you pull on the rope!! I will be getting the secondary RKT kit this year, I am hoping to get some speed out of the torque monster!! I have spent alot of seat time on my buddies Revs and its all preference and your riding style, but I feel that the Cat is a great handling sled. I hope some of this helps, maybe its mostly babble but I wish that I would have had someone point me in the right direction three years ago as there wasnt many people that knew what to do with these machines, I felt pretty frustrated.

The nice thing about the m1000 at 162 hp is you can still ad more ponies if you want..plus you can get some good deals on the 09 now theirs not much diff between, the 09-10 for the $$$ diff. i had a 07 m1 from new loved it, easy to work on, add hp..etc... lite, predictable, now riding the apex mtn, way diff sled, but thats not what you ask, u may want to try one though lots of torque, im 200lbs and it has endless possiblities but whatever u want, the m1 is a solid pick, in a nutshell. u dont have to turbo it to make it go, we do have an 09 m1000 thats a demo with all the toys on already if your interested , let me know

PM depsnolvr. He had a M1000 and last year went to the XP. Rides lots in Valemount with his Varda job, so he could give you a good comparison.

I also own both, 09 Summit 800 146" (can, Y & pipe, reeds), and 09 M1 162", stock, however (due to the dealer I bought if from, but thats another story). What I can tell you, is that, no you wont be racing the doos up on set up snow, but the doos wont be following you on your technical line in less the perfect snow conditions.

It seems to me that unless you have 3' of snow, the XP's, are a point and shoot sled. The cats, 6" of snow, and that sled will do anything you want it to and than some, just by thinking it.

Just so that you know, thats coming from a doo guy, through and through, I still tell people I won the cat in a raffle.

Than again, maybe it's just me.
