"What are your thoughts? Would you tell someone to hit the road if they showed up with a regular pack?" No

The beacon, probe, shovel and avy training ( ie knowing how to use the equipment) directly affect's my well being, by directly affecting your ability to find and save me....... while the avy pack directly affects the person wearing it and my chances of finding and saving her/him....

Ummmmm it's just another tool, why wouldn’t you own/wear one ....

We wear the the BCA Float 30 and all of our survival/safety gear fits in itincluding survival food rations, extra goggles....everything else is in anotherbag on the sled...

Haven’t had to use, hope I never do....but it’s therelike a good tool just waiting to be used...

I agree with that to a certain extent. If it can't hurt why not. However I personally am not a fan of storing stuff on my tunnel and have not found another way other than a Boss seat and I've heard the new ones are garbage compared to the old. And trying to find an old one is difficult. I'd love for my pack to not weigh 50lbs. lol.

So for me, storage solution would have to come first, then the avalanche pack.

Not Riding with someone because they lack an avalanche bag, is well.. Crazy, that's to far. Wether someone else wears an avy bag or not is their choice and has no effect on you. Just think, before their were avalanche bags, know one wore them!! I can see it being
Different if the person lacks probes, beacon, shovel because them
Not having those things can effect you in the cause that you are barried and not them. I do think that avalanche bags are a good idea and that is why I wear one. But choosing not to ride with someone because they do not have an avalanche bag is getting a bit extreme, imagine how rude you would look by telling someone to hit the road because they lack an avalanche bag? Maybe they don't have the funds for one but still want to sled, right? What next? People choosing not to ride with someone because they don't wear Klim gear? Pffft... I am pretty sure that this sport never used to be like this..

Funny, when I said something like that his defense was when I said that it doesn't affect him if I have one or not was, and I quote " well yes it does because I have to dig your @$$ out when you get buried"...lol

This is like saying you didn't bring the pb and j samiches? Fawk off! Find new friends!

On the other hand you get a free avy bag when you buy a new skidoo sled from martin motorsports. Just saying. That's how we all got them.

I realize they are expensive but if you can afford the sled you can afford the bag I suppose. I don't know why they are so pricy? They seem pretty basic?

Just another tool like everyone said!

But deffinetly not a reason to not ride with someone. I see morons every day with avy bags and all the greatest tools but I'd rather ride with someone who has a beacon probe and shovel that knows how to use it!!

another great point by Maxwell, if these things are supposed to help make our sport safer then why the heck are they so expensive? Same goes for beacons, probes etc.....

Holy $hit...I actually agree with maxwell. Is our feud and head butting over?! you seem to be answering positive to things I post now...I'm not sure what to think...

But that is pretty cool that you get a free avy bag with a sled purchase.

Bingo.

Bag or not, I couldn't care less. No beacon, nor knowing how to use it(shovel probe)? Enjoy your ride, I won't be there.

It is a tool as everyone says.... should be noted before these things even came out ppl where riding without avy bags.

for me i wear one, cause do i really want to be sittin in a hole of snow saying to myself.... man i could be at the 2 ft depth or highr if i had a avy bag. I have never used one but given the statistics why leave your life in the hands of others.

But would i ride with some with no bag, yea i will ride with them if they have no avy bag... its there life!

This argument is kinda silly. Many years ago people also used red rope with knots tied into it to help find a buried victim. Would I rather wear a beacon? You bet your skinny white ass I would.
