I have always been a dodge guy but am looking at a 08 GM single cab short box 4x4 with a 5.3l, does anyone have an idea what a truck like that should get for fuel mileage???

Depends if ya stay outta the throttle or not....the 5.3L is a pretty fuel efficient engine especially with the AFM, have some customers that "claim" 25MPG?!!? BUT them new Dodges are a FAR nicer looking truck, and have much nicer interior than the GM's...IMO

yep sure do, friend HAD one as a company truck and fried both turbos after pulling long hill (he LOVES his fords) pulled off for whatever reason, turned the truck off and had to go back to ford on a hook. He talked them into buying a 3/4 ton instead with the 6.2L gasser.

I've been driving diesel for 8 years and I'm very excited about getting my Ecoboost. There are a lot of ex-diesel guys on Ford Truck Enthusiasts that are very happy with the their Eco's.

I agree that the GM interior is not pretty. A friend has an LTZ and it's so boring and poorly designed. Another friend has a Laramie sport 1500, and I must say that is one of the nicest interiors I have ever seen. He also says he's getting 23-25MPG with that MDS system.

My dad has an '09 chevy company truck and HATES the interior...but it's a company truck. LOL Hmmm good to know, about the hemi "claiming" to get 23-25 MPG. Isn't that in the EB claim range too?? Keep your foot outta the throttle and it can get decent mileage...lol However when I am pullin trailer I don't bother tracking MPG...hahaha:)

No CUSO I have no idea what you drive. Enlighten me.

Sorry if I'm coming off like a dick.
It's all just an opinion.

I have 2 Duramax's and absolutely love them. They have been the best trucks I have ever owned. My 07 2500 Crew Cab has 302000 oil patch km's and has had very little for repairs. All I have replaced is the tranny lines(warrantee), just changed the alternator, an electronic module that runs the dash light($500 w/labour), both front wheel bearings, one inner tie rod, rear brake pads and a fan belt. The front end is still in good shape(original) and it has the original front brakes. :) My 08 2500 crew has 115000 kms and hasn't had anything done to it.

I had a 06 Z71 and a dodge diesel before that. The dodge cost me a small fortune to run to 300000 kms. I replaced 6 front wheel bearings, many U-joints, piles of brakes, front end work twice and was wore out again when I sold it. The motor, tranny, diffs, transfer case were good, no troubles.

The 06 Z71 was more like a car, it was a decent vehicle, didnt cost me alot for repairs but lacked power and suspension to pull most things. Good fuel mileage though, use to get over 600 kms/90 litre tank. Has 220000 kms on it.

My wifes 97 Chev Tahoe has 450000 kms on the original motor, diffs, transfer case, front end, etc. It had its first tranny and rear brakes at 395000 kms, probably havent spent more than $2500-$3500 in repairs besides the $2500 for the tranny.

You do all your preventative maintenance, on time by the sounds of it! :) Yep the unit bearings on the dodges were crap, but switch over to a manual hub (which it should be anyways) and it almost eliminates the problem, atleast it can be repacked with grease. Getting rid of the factory parts when replacing (front end) makes a huge difference. LOL IMO

It's good you found a truck you like, hard to do these days. Is your 07 pre-emmisions?

I replaced the front end parts in the Dodge with Moog both times. The 07 is pre-emissions. If I need to replace it I might just buy another 07. Hoping for 500000 kms. ;)

Sorry I meant high end aftermarket, my bad.

And have read in a few places that the pre-emmisions 07 dmax was the best engine.
