louder is better! you are on the right track here. check into bad ass cans, i think they claim to have loudest.
not sure if your sled will pass the new noise bylaw though

Was thinking of modding my pipes to aim right at my face from behind the dash, no can, just straight pipes. But my buddy said that I wouldn't have enough compression on the exhaust stroke to force my backpressure out and that I should get a can instead. He no's lots about sleds. If I can get it to work when it's aiming at my face, then I would just ride with no helmet.......should be loud enough eh?

ive heard the back pressure thing before, but your idea is really worth a try as a summer project to get that extra hp you are looking for. maybe you dont even need pipes? you need to look into oil as well, lots of hidden hp to be found there as well

Now let's look at this more closely! HP gains are your main concern but you appear to let us think that you like loud noise? I think your best bet would be foo-foo valves!

You ask, "why foo-foo valves? Well, it is a well known fact that they provide HP gains in the neighborhood of 10hp and increase the decibels immensely. Forget the VF reeds, that just costs a lot of money for no HP gain and no extra noise.

Another well documented fact for HP gain is purple premium. Research has shown that the molecular construction of the dye can add up to 5 HP for 2 strokes. That is before the pipe and can mods. I could go on, but I will leave the rest to your great imagination......fs

if you have a tuned header you can run it straight pipe. my buddie has crank shop pipes and he can run it straight all the way through its just tooo loud :d if your looking for a super loud can why not make one? thats what I did for my I.A. project.

Don't forget about the headlight and taillight delete mod. Monster weight savings=untold highmark gains. The decal delete mod is saved for the true daredevils.

If you narrow the face pointed pipes near the end, that should provide not only the much needed back pressure, but raise the pitch of the noise on exit thereby increasing physical hearing damage which would obviously lead to more HP gains at the track........(maybe throw a couple of loose bearings in the primary as well)

Good thinking guys - I was also thinking that if I reduced the helmet to pipe distance by plumbing the pipes up to my handlebars, I would increase the sound level as well - do you think this will work?

well if ur a really good welder, i'd go with fabing up 3 large pork/bean cans together, with about a 27mm exit hole, and if that ain't loud, the contents you'd have to eat will get you popping around the garage.

If you run the pipes into the bars, and out the ends of the bars it should provide enough backpressure, plus eliminate the need for heated grips.Go with the KLIM kevlar gloves and all should be well.:d:d:d

If you put one of those coffee can exhausts that every honda civic is driving around with. it will probably give 1000+ horsepower just like it does on the civics. ;)
