Time for a NEW sledding truck

Well just like the title looking for a new to me truck and looking for some info...
Looked at a couple Fords, Gmc 2006 too 2011 gas and diesel.
What should I look for in the trucks (problems)?

i like my 2011 f250 with gas 6.2 i average 17L/100km mix of city and hwy. i hear the new diesels are good too if thats in your budget

i run a 07 duramax and love it,pull enclosed sled trailer in the winter,or use the sled deck,and the summer pull the holiday trailer and love it,pulls great,no issues,no complaints

I just bought a new sledding truck as well 07 Duramax 260000 km love it everyone I know all drive duramaxs ... The smart ones anyways! If you look around kijiji you can find higher mile 06-07 duramaxs fully loaded for under 20 grand ... Thoughts on a gas truck is that goings thru the mountains is its just not relaxing they do the Job fine but it seems u just have to pay so much more attention to driving

My trailer puller is a 05 F-350 H.D. (bought in 07) 6.0 diesel, and it has been flawless. Despite of being a 6.0, and 129K

My company truck is a 07 Silverado classic 2500HD (got in 07) and it has been the BEST truck I have ever driven for a long period of time. I got it with 20K on it, and it now has 207K. Oil change once a month, and other than a front wheel bearing...... Pretty much nothing for else!!! I could see the Chev being harder on fuel pulling trailers though.

08 dodge 3500 has 80000 km and has been flawless, but have heard of horror stories about there front ends and trannys!

If you are planning on using a sled deck get a truck with an 8 foot box / bed. IMHO A sled deck with a long track sled on a 5.5 foot box is ridiculous, transfers too much weight off the front of the truck and is not safe.

I had a F-350 tool truck with the 6.2 for about a month while I was waiting for my new 6.7 diesel to be ready. Wow, I liked that engine, it pulls hard. Way more power and economy than my 6.8 I had before. For the weights I'm dragging around (GVW +- 5000kg) I think it pulls right with this new diesel and only gets slightly worse mileage.

I don't think anyone builds a 3/4 ton with a 5.5' box.

My truck is for sale again. The dude couldn't scratch up the money!

2008 GMC 2500HD Sierra extended cab with a custom aluminum flatdeck built for sledding and quadding. 6l gas, 410 rear end, full leather load and not much missing as far as accessories go. 9200 GVW with the 8' box (so with 2 sleds, 2 guys, gear, full fluids, and 6 jerry cans I had a few hundred pounds to spare). Very clean and well cared for with only 128,000 kms and the ad will go up later tonight. Last guy settled for just under $21,000.00.

Hmm. That's polar opposite of my opinion of my 6.2 f350 work truck. I only have an aluminum topper on it. Truck weighs about 8500 lbs, and I think it's pretty gutless and not very good on fuel compared to my 6.7. Id never consider one for my own personal ride.

With any of these new generation engines gear ratio is important . IMO
Had a 2011 crew long box and ordered it with 4:30 ratio.
Thing pulled like crazy and really good power. Drove one with 3:73 and wasn't near as impressed.

I agree, all the gas jobbies seem to make their power upstairs. A good low axle ratio coupled with a 5 or 6 speed tranny so they can rev their guts out and do some work.

This one has the 3.73. Can't imagine the fuel economy with the 4.3s though but I'd imagine it would pull quite well.

Averaged 16-17/100 L. Empty
Pulling 8000 lbs it ran 22-23/100
With 285 tires, leveling kit and sled deck.
I didn't think it was that bad for a big truck and the extra advantages over weight the fuel economy .IMO

Mega cab come with the standard short bed, same size as Crew Cab..... 74" I believe.
