there goes a whole region , no hunting allowed.

Did you actually read what they're about? They are fighting for us, not against us while playing "The Game." Those 6 Counties are excellent to work with and our club works hand in hand with 2 of them with 2 trails in their areas. Those 2 were a driving force to promote and were the easiest to deal with when we first started our sled trails when no one else batted an eye. They understand the area, they understand the people, they understand the issues. If the Govt places Parks or Caribou Protection areas in those counties without this Committee being formed, can you imagine the consequences? The people that live there might as well pack up and walk away. This committee is fighting against that.

that is just what i read, this group is trying to fight a closure. sledders in bc are facing the same fight, it is not about caribou it is about controlling this part of the country, follow the money, seems to ring true every time. Rockefeller foundation, seems to come up everytime. big US oil. ask yourselves why is a us outfit shutting in alberta and sask oil n gas. follow the money, get involved now, as next week is going to be too late

So you understand they are fighting "Closures". But yet you said "there goes a whole region , no hunting allowed". When one reads that, they automatically assume the said group is fighting against us not for us.

it was the quickest link to the area that i could find, and it was a direct link to those affected.

I'm glad you did post the link. I was not aware of the committee and I sent the link off to our executives. Thanks Imdoo'n!

i'm of the opinion that we may be too late as the decision is done and the formalities are being breezed through. man i hope i'm wrong. our riding area is going to be affected in April i'm thinking.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Everyone who uses the backcountry needs to stand up and be heard. Write your MLA, sign petitions, join clubs, participate in rallies, tell your friends and be an advocate. It’s not hard and your not too busy. If we don’t get united and stand up for our rights, we will have all the time in the world.

I know that feeling and hope both of us are wrong.

my frustration is there are a few thousand active members on here and only a dozen or so are involved. or trying to get others involved.

as doorfx says once gone - it's gone.

sent a few more letters off in mail yesterday, e-mails have been getting rejected lately.

The whole back page of the Edmonton Metro paper yesterday. They are spending lots of money on advertising to people who don't know the area and think they are doing good to support saving their drinking water.

WOW... they're really pushing that non-motorized Wildland Park... The whole western foothills to the mountains from US border all the way up :(

they only have a little over a year to get it done....

Very frustrating. Very Sad. Time to start fighting back. Time we start fighting back. Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to fill the back page of the Metro? I can't seem to find this info on-line without contacting their sales department.

When I first came to BC the NDP were in power here. There was legislation in place to make a park from the US border along the ridge west of Elkford and the AB border right to Kananaskis. The Liberals formed the next government and a "user group management plan" was implemented. It never got completed.

The Y2Y movement was right behind it. IMHO, it is just a matter of time with the NDP back in power that the eastern Kootenays will be just like Castle and the proposed Big Horn area. They have picked a great slogan in "Save the Headwaters" and the large majority of Albertans are going to support it.

Copy and paste.

Catchy acronyms & phrases build sustainable initiatives. For example, millions of dollars currently flows into Y2Y which is the Yellowstone to Yukon initiative. They have been operational for 20 years and are an advocacy group looking to preserve a vast 3200 kilometre long corridor adjacent to the Rocky Mountain range for almost purely wildlife habitat only.

They help to coordinate opposition to resource extraction and even transportation thru this corridor. They are led by activist Harvey Locke and seek the complete shutdown of our Oilsands because in addition to shutting down human recreational use of this corridor, they suggest that climate change is threatening this habitat. They now claim the support of over 300 environmental NGO's. Many of those now funded by our own governments.

We here in Alberta need to establish our own all encompassing proactive response to these foreign funded initiatives that seek to control how we utilize our own backyard. They never give credit nor concern with how well we already do in the responsible extraction and transport of our resources nor the responsible recreational fishing, hunting and off highway vehicle use of those areas. Y2Y loves to highlight the occasional wild long weekend takeover of a few easily accessed areas without ever giving credit for the way in which responsible Alberta Off Highway Recreational Vehicle users have stepped up to stop that type of uncontrolled activity from occurring.

I am proposing that we need to collaborate all of our pro-Alberta, pro-Oilsands and pro-OHRV efforts into an umbrella oversight organization. One that consistently promotes and protects our common interests. And one which can utilize the same charitable organization tax benefits as those seeking to shutdown Alberta activities already do.

A4A, our acronym for Access for Alberta.

Access to international markets despite our landlocked borders.

Access to recreational use of our own lands in a responsible manner as defined by us alone.

Access to development of our natural resources in a responsible way determined by us alone.

Access to a fair share of our revenue capacity without excessive penalty imposed by less productive regimes.

Access to reasonable market driven electricity rates that suit Alberta's natural resource advantages.

These are only 5 of the primary ways in which Alberta has always been constrained by out of province and international special interests who DO NOT have Alberta's best interests at heart. A4A, Access for Alberta could become a significant way for Albertans to begin the process of leveling the playing field that has been tilted in favour of Y2Y, Greenpeace, Tides, Pembina Institute and many others.

Just like the Unite the Right initiative succeeded in giving us the United Conservative Party of Alberta, it is time to stand Stronger Together rather than be picked apart by the unified socialist forces. Whether it's pipelines, off highway vehicle use, unfair wealth redistribution, higher electricity rates or shutdown of coal powerplants, we are fighting the same war for our future generations of Albertans.
