It sure sure the hell was not the Econemy major of Canada, and in another fifty years it could easily be on its way out

Your history is a bit off, first discovery in Canada is in the 1850's and its well over 100 years in Alberta.
I'm pretty sure with these discoveries back than people's way of living improved for more and more with the increased opportunities.

Well your way of life has been brought to you by oil and gas. Unless yah start farming with horses like they once did, i'd say oil and gas has helped your way of life, and many other industries and households.

Lately the winters we have been getting, the wood pile does not need to be very full, we have been using a gas well that was abandoned a decade ago and will probally last longer than I will be around.. Don't take a lot of wood to heat the home/shop with good insulation

How many bushels per month to heat a house Freddo? Without O&G nobody lives north of Arizona. Ya, less than a century ago people survived...but there isn't the trees to keep everyone alive now.....

This has to be one of the most ridiculous posts on here ,in the last fifty years ....

All parts of the economy have contributed to the great way of life we enjoy today. Incredible advancements in agriculture and oil and gas (especially over the past decade) have fundamentally changed how we farm the land and how we recover oil and gas - the best is yet to come.

Right now oil and gas accounts for 10% of the Canadian economy. Agriculture, another 2%. Manufacturing, forestry, conrtruction and real estate lead the way. We need them all. I think that we all need to live on a little less.

Exactly, no one single part is anymore valuable then the other, however some markets solely rely on a single sector. In my area it was the same here in the early 90s when forestry took a huge dive.

Yes but you and others are looking at the stats wrong, take oil and gas totally out of the picture, it doesn't exist anymore same as coal remove it from the scenario.

Where do you believe those other industries will be??? With out the power and energy to produce and manuf.

Everything we own, do, enjoy has been brought to you by o&g and it's byproducts.

As much as people don't want to believe it, coal and the oil and gas sector is the backbone of the economy and has been for quite awhile.

We have been trying to hire people people for months now. Very little resumes coming in although we are asking for experience drivers. The taxi cab drivers from Kabul haven't even been applying. We all are gonna be in trouble finding people once the patch gets in full swing.

I agree. At 10%, oil and gas is a big part of the economy, especially out West. It's not going anywhere soon (as much as our Govt's think they can replace with solar and wind).

Coal not so much. Electricity generation from coal has been on the decline in NA for years. I can be replaced with natural gas. Smelting coal can be sourced from Asia, so not much of a future for the mountain mines.

Air is kind of important, I like to breath ya know. Sun light is great too,-250 celsius isn't really my thing . Water is nice to drink n chit.
Top soil, another important one.

Oil is pretty new, it has made life easier and at is least part of the reason the population is over 7 billion.
