New Short block install questions

Hey Modman,

No its just the tip left in there. I hit it with a bit of a punch last night without any luck. I'm a little iffy about trying to drill it, as the seat should be tapered. HMMM

Magnet, vacuum, something that fits down the hole and then put some epoxy on the end or something, stick it on and let it set up, then try and pull it out, or drill. I would try in that order. Yes the seat should be tapered so drilling as last resort.

Well, i ended up going straight to drilling to come back inside to find this post.. DAMN

Soo got it all put back together, and adjusted the air screws to 1 1/2 turns out. Took a few pulls to get the carbs full of fuel again, and took some more time adjusting the idle. Didn't seem to want to run at first, so i figured i'd back out the air screw.. more fuel.

Soo it ran for about 10 minutes idling in the driveway, i figured phuk ya... i got it. Go to hop on it, and she dies. Pulled it over a few more times, and brap then stop... 3 times. Gave up and came inside to see what was going on here.

Did i go too far with the air screw? the book calls for 1 1/2 turns out. I started with that, then backed it out another turn.

Either way, i'll be looking for another set of carbs over the summer, because running with that air screw drilled out.. doesn't seem right.

air screw works backwards , 1 out turn is more fuel than 1 1/2 turns out , 2 1/2 out is lean

does this make sense

Hmm ok. Well she seemed to be getting more fuel once i turned it out.

when a 2 stroke boggs when you spike the throttle they need more gas may need to adjust your slides a little more to the open side then adjust your air screws and go back to 1 1/2 turns for a starting point
I start out with 3 turns from contact on the slides

don't let it tear down the drive way

What TrollCat said. Air screw controls air going in at idle, farther out you turn it, the more it comes off the tapered seat and the more air you get. As you go up in elevation you turn the screw out, in as you go down. If you backed it out then it leaned it out, worse that can happen is that it will start to idle high and won't run down to proper idle. If it dies at idle there is something else wrong IMO. Use the choke and see if its getting enough fuel to start. If it starts then you know its not getting enough fuel. Running for a couple seconds and then dieing is a classis symptom of not getting enough fuel in my experience.

Alright, well that makes sense to me. Haven't played with it since Thursday night when it started up and i ran it up. I will mention that during the whole run up the oil light flickered on and off the whole time. I know when i readjusted the carbs that i didn't readjust the oil cable.

After looking around on Kijiji, i put up a wanted ad to see if anyone had any spare carbs for sale.

Came back with a couple replies from a couple 2004's. Will the carb bodys be the same, as long as i change over all the bits and pieces?

Well went out and found a set of carbs, the guy said they were 2004's. But after searching the Body number (Tm40 - B328), It seems they are from a 2005 800HO.

Everything looks the same, here's to crossing my fingers. haha.

Alright, so got everything back together and set up. Ran it up for about 5 minutes until it fouled up the plugs, took them out and cleaned them up. Installed them again and then it fouled them again, so it seems to be "running" but needs to be tuned. Gonna try and turn out the air screw a turn or so.

with engine warm run it about 1/3 throttle for a 1 minute it will clean up , you have a biuld up of oil in the motor needs to be run to clean up then set the carbs DO THIS ON A TRACK STAND

Its all rock & roll from there
