So if I am reading this correctly, your 2019 $6500 install price for your ROI won’t work for house. In the summer with my AC my usage is about 750, but I keep the thermometer at 21, and my main floor is about 1800sqft.

You'd need a system a bit over double the size of mine to cover your energy consumption. Some of the installation costs are fixed, so to double the system size would be a bit less than double the cost.

I'd have to run the numbers, but I believe the savings would scale fairly uniformly with system size, so a system 3 times the size would cost 3 times as much, but should also deliver 3 times the cost saving on an electric bill.

Just checked my power bill. We use about 600 or so.

That's an acreage with a well and a fancy septic system though. And an electric cooktop and 3 freezers haha. Definitely room for improvement.

I'd love to set up a solar system. I think I've asked before but how does it work with the 75% of my bill being fees and taxes?

Transmission and distribution fees are split, you pay about $45/month just to be connected to the grid, the rest is from power consumption at about 14 cents/kwh.

You save money on this if your consumption is lower due to consuming energy from the panels within the house.

I thought carbon taxes were to pay for these upgrades? I thought of building a car port with solar panels as the roof.

There is a full system for sale on Market place with 8x310w panels, batteries etc.

I'm borderline overwhelmed with trying to design up a system. Even a simple one on my trailer

thats what drives me insane about the carbon tax. Fine, charge it, but give it back to me even at 50c on the dollar for renewable upgrades. Go try and apply online, near impossible and thats by design

You can get some money on a solar install through the Canadian Governments Greener Homes Grant. It pays $1 per installed watt, ie a 3000watt system like mine would get $3000. It's kind of a pain though, you have to apply for the grant, then once you get approval you get a home inspection, which you pay for (but can get another grant for), then you get approval to proceed with the installation, once it's installed you have to pay for another inspection (which you can get a grant for) to verify the system was installed. Then you wait months for the payment to come, all the while having to pay the contractor for the installation. It's setup exactly how the Liberals would do it with their bureaucratic idiocy.

I got the Alberta Rebate the NDP put out, I only got $0.90/watt but it was a lot simpler. My installer dealt with it all, paperwork was simple, approval was quick and they paid the installer direct.
