deaner yes being a power engineer i know how important a break in on a combustion engine is. witch is why i specifically asked before i even put it in the back of my pick up what exactly do i need to do to break this engine in? as i have stated before i did EXACTLY TO A T what i was told to do by the individual. What i DIDNT know is i am supposed to put 200 soft km on this motor before even considering to crack the throttle. The best part is i specifically asked if the break in is something i can do in the mountains and the reply i got was oh yea no prob. baby it up the trail and after the vary the rpms lots, that's basically the just i got. Thats a pretty long shot from what the break in info dave provides with the kits. i think its funny your posting people like me shouldn't be running mods... but the fact that i paid a professional alot of money to install and provide me the detailed information on how to work the product they are selling should eliminate any doubts on the fact that i have inexperience running a big bore.

But even without seeing this paper.....you honestly didnt know that you would have to break in a new high performance motor?? Should probably stick to stock from now on.

Why don't we see what the story is on the failed engines before we throw Dave's kits under the bus? I know of a few guys firsthand that run these kits and have had no issues and love them. There are a lot of these kits out there that are running great and Dave is a respected builder that wants feedback all the time from his customers. He doesn't hide out like some builders that have been well known to this site and taken advantage of peeps. Just my 2 cents...

A guy on snow west made a post about his 872 blowing up on break in, Dave Trygstad then commented and jumped all over the guy about who he was and how he abused his sled (Classy) then another guy posts fairly quikly that actually he was the guy that blew his 872 up on break in and Dave had jumped on the wrong guy.

Thats the problem - nobody can comment on this site about any
Brp products, 872, dealers, pricing or what ever without the Doo crew getting all defensive then Mods pull the thread. You dealers, salesmen .... have to realize that joe worker has to pay full price for our toys and we kind of appreciate the honest reviews, potential deals are nice to see as well - I see the mods enjoy seeing non doo deals posted as well - Good products, dealers, salesmen sell themselves through great service and a product thats WORKS.
I have no problem paying full price plus for that.Thats more than fair to me.

When something fails the first thing that should be done is contact the supplier in private and try and resolve it that way first. If its resoved and you screwed up man up and pay, thats fair as well.

unfortunately its not dave i would be chasing it would be the installer for the paperwork they are contractually supposed to supply with the kit to the customer.

Lawyer is getting aggressive !! I have run a lot of mod stuff sleds and cars. Never took that action. I would rather give you couple Pistons then have you chase TRYGSTAD.

I agree as well, but it is a crappy feeling to have a new sled that has a engine down, but that's modding unfortunately, yah make a decision and hope it's the right one.

A calm customer will have a easier time than a irritated one, without the actual cause of the failure it's just speculation at this point.

The dealer will be able to tell if the sled was overheated on the trail, throttle input %, time spent at what rpm, it's all stored in the computer.
A 4 corner scuff is a huge tattle tale after a engine tear down.

I completely agree with this comment. when i made this post i was expecting the guys that had issues that are pm ing me to tell me straight up before i went and pulled the trigger on this motor. But my case is special BECAUSE of the fact that the paperwork that has break in info was never seen with my own two eyes. and the information they gave me in regards to break in was pretty much what FredW posted about his 880. So i dont know whats going to come out of this but i am prepared to see a lawyer about the documents i was supposed to receive upon purchase of my kit.
A $5000+ lawyer bill on a $3000 whoopsie will make it better.......

Did is you actually sign a contract about your install?

sorry I am not feeling any pity on this one. It is the name of the game when playing with aftermarket stuff. Everyone knows that it is soft and easier for the first 3 rides typically until everything loosens up, doesn't really matter who's kit your talking here. You don't need a piece of paper as an excuse for that. Go get your lawyer... Lol. Waste of money on your part. If your builder is honourable and backs his work, he will do what he can. But how does one control what the operator is doing. computer will be the tall tell sign obviously, if your builder is a dink he will clearly use this as his escape route unless you where truly driving that machine like grandma.

Getting jumped on is for sure a problem on here and other sites! That's the reason I never posted when I had an issue with an arctic cat and it's dealer I never said anything! It's a well respected dealer but I know everyone would jump on me if I said anything bad. So I sit and be quite and hope no one has the same thing happen to them. That might be the wrong thing to do though

I can see how the OP made a mistake by not taking it super easy on break in. I'm a believer in hard break in and have good luck with it on a lot of motors. Warm it up and then vary the throttle a lot to pull as much vacuum as possible as well as cylinder pressure to seat rings for first 20km or so and then pin it. Long easy break in was a thing of the past due to less sophisticated materials and machining techniques.

So what exactly did Riderz say when you told them about your issue?

I would guess if its Riderz they would do everything they can to help. Great dealer, but what do I know.

I agree with this. It is why we use our dyno to break in our engines and have other shops bring their new engines to break I also.

Yes they are a great dealer. They are probably Trygstad's go to dealer for installs. Never questioned your opinion on them. Just want to know if they knew about the problem before everyone on Snow and Mud did. Thats the problem I have. Peeps have a problem on the hill and instead of talking to there dealer about it they get on a forum and tell everyone there problem. If I have a problem with my truck I go see my dealer, not get on snow and mud and start a thread about what a piece of chit truck I have.

Well said . I have never been in the store till about a month ago . Stopped in the check out a SXS .
Very nice young lady directed me to a fella that was talking on the phone to a customer.
As I was waiting I over heard him trying to resolve a problem with a after market product a customer had purchased from them.
Not going to get into that but after he finished up I shook his hand and said very well done.
It's been a long time since I heard a dealer ship treat a customer that professional and went out of his way to make something right that they had no control over.
Turned out to be one of the owners .
Would I purchase from them ? You bet.
Not getting off track but with what I seen they will try to make things right if possible but it's performance and a lot of variables .
My 2 coins

ToToToTo be clear, first phone call was with Dave himself. Next was the dealer it was installed. After my post on here was on here on this forum. The legal action I was talking about earlier was due to the missing paper work and I stated I was ready to go that route if this situation is dealt with in a manner not satisfactory to my standards. We are unsure what exactly happened at the moment and are waitomg for the engine to be torn down.upon tear down and a visual inspection of the failed parts by myself I'll let everyone know whats the deal is. The sled is back where it came from, so we will see what happens from here. I dont believe in staying quite for fear of being bullied around by companies, its employees ,or people here on forums such as this one. If there's unresolved issues people should know about them before they go spend their hard earned cash. This is why we go to professionals such as the installer of my kit. They have the professional expertice and are able to do professional installs and give professional advice due to their professional training and knowledge on the product lines they carry. So I am sure it will be dealt with in a professional manner.
