Be that guy....Just plug in to your neighbor's house. lol. I had a loaner Chevy bolt to drive for a month back and forth to work. I was just using the power at work. I wanted to see if it would maintain itself without charging at home. It did no problem even on 110 volts. About 100 kms round trip. My manager was so pissed he shut the breakers off to the parking lot. lol


I am a resourceful guy, I could figure out a way to get it charged. Point is, it would be a PITA for me. When Gm and Dodge have E-trucks sitting at the dealership
and there is charging stations all over the place I might get one. Will that be in 5years? Maybe.

Ha ha, so what did you think of the Chevy bolt? If it’s anything like the volt I think I’d like it.

I found it to be a great commuter vehicle. Fit and finish is really good. A little small for two kids and some baggage though. Perfect for my wife as she only drives 95% of the time in the city

Did it have the one pedal driving where you don’t use the brakes to come to a stop? The volt actually has a little lever on the back of the steering wheel that activates the brakes/regen. Or you can put the transmission in L setting for the most aggressive regen.

Why shut breaker off . Power is cheap ?!!

It is.. he just didn't want me getting a free ride when everyone else was paying for fuel to get to work. I work in the oil and gas. It was in good fun. I wanted to see that vein pop out of his forehead when I told him.

And pricing drops....there are no inexpensive electric cars.

This right here is the whole point of the electric vehicle. Probably makes up 3/4 of the population

It does have the paddle on the left side of the steering wheel for regen braking. I was surprised how well it works for slowing down in normal traffic.

That Nissan Titan diesel is a prime example of that. 5 years from now is about the time that the current generation of EV’s is gonna be worn out. Once people see that there’s no market for a worn out car with a depleted battery the bottom will fall out of the market. An old gas powered POS will still drive and some low income person will always need one, but an EV with a dead battery has little value to anyone. And nobody yet has answered the questions about what to do with the several hundred pounds of hazardous waste contained in those worn out batteries.

Out of curiosity, by the time you hit 500,000km how many times would you have changed oil, coolant flush, filled up with def fluid, changed brakes, changed transmission oil, changed diff oil and added brake oil?

Here is food for thought: everyone comments on how these electric vehicles are inconvenience do to lack of charging stations. I just went out to start the big truck and realized it Feb at -18 and I currently have 3 vehicles in my driveway hooked to extension cords.

Probably 100 jugs of washer fluid. Don’t really expect much brake maintenance. I’ll probably take them apart after this winter to take a look as I’m going to be at the 50,000km mark by then. Cabin air filter should be done soon as well as wiper blades. Tires are going to be the biggest expense I think. Electric cars are hard on rubber. With the AWD it seems like they are wearing pretty evenly. On the RWD model you definitely have to rotate frequently.

As far as saying an old ICE POS would be worth more than an electric car once the battery is toast, this can not be true at all. If you have a laptop and the battery dies it’s very likely that you get a new battery and continue to use it. This is not a car. This is an internet connected transportation robot. Another thing to consider, the price of batteries will continue to decrease over time. Human labour pricing will likely increase over time. John Deere ain’t sending someone out for less than $160/hour. In 2025, what will the shop rate be for automotive work?

are the batteries really going to come down in price over time?

as demand goes up, you don't think the price will too?

I just spent 280$ on a milwuakee lithium battery, i hope they come down, but they seem to be getting more expensive?

maybe some new technology will bring the price down?

I see good batteries continue to increase in price .
As they change vehicle design they will change battery design as well . Shapes will change and be designed for that model year .
Manufactures can’t even keep the stupid wheel bolt pattern the same .
I would guess budget $8-$10000 for replacement costs.
Hope it gets better as I have always liked the idea.
