I read a couple of stories about this incident on the weekend and it brought up some serious questions in my mind. The driver said he measured his load a few times, it was 4.85 meters. The bridge he hit was 4.45 meters. In Washington State they dont post the clearance height on overhead obstacles if there clearance is over 4.39 meters.

When you get an over height permit, do you not have to submit your route and is there not a list of possible problem areas? Who's responsibility is it to make sure the route is acceptable?

Driver is from Spruce Grove. He says pilot car did not warn him of lower height in right lane and that pilot car should have warned him to move to left lane.

I read a new story this morning, I guess its up to the company to make sure the route is appropriate.

That makes common sense I guess. I dont haul overheight so I am not exactly sure how it works up here, but I do know every overhead is clearly marked. Also seems obvious thats it is a good idea to do so.

Or am I missing something? Guy made a mistake period end of story!

They interviewed a gal from Washington highways this morning on Global. She said that bridge is a problem area and has been hit a number of times. The left side is over a meter higher than the right side. If the driver would have been warned to pull over to the left he would have been alright. They obviously would have had to c lose the bridge down to do that but they don't post heights so how would the driver know?

I know where these were built, they have W18 beam in the roof structure.....it's why they hardly look the beat up, some other pictures (Which I dont have access to) show the roof beams are bent, so if you understand what a W18 beam is....it's no wonder the bridge collapsed....

As far as fault...if the load was measured properly and the right corner of the bridge was lower than the permitted height which is what has been reported....the driver should be off the hook...

The pilot driver is supposed to be on the lookout for unreported structures that are lower than the loaded height, but there is information the left side of the support that was hit is 2’higher....had someone warned them when they pulled the permit, this never would have happened...

Good thing no one died....the rest is just money....

MY question is why a business in the service related industry that supposedly, wants to see alberta sledders use his business would post such an asinine post, will you be showing this thread to any alberta sledders when/if they come to your establishment this coming winter. Personally i find it very offensive as posted. I'm not even a truck driver. I think i'll save this post an keep bringing it back, when said business is looking for sledders or people to buy their products in the coming winters.

What I find real funny is the amount of crap that is slung BC's way from Albertians on this site, and this many of you take offense to this thread?

I think a few of you might want to lighten up just a tad. Here is a bit of news for you, Alberta's sh*t stinks as well.

it's mostly to do with the RCMP in BC picking on red plates, I've always said BC is a nice place to visit. I think if you had to say one group was "****ting" on the other, it's a lot more BC peeps bitching about opulent Albertans and their attitudes.
