Smokey can get pretty tight for parking space if it's a big snow year in the valley, but you can park up the hill once you unload and once you get used to riding from the trailer, loading to go anywhere starts to suck

My riding buddy just called Days. There is still sledding rates but prices are up quite a bit even for us. The Plankers are getting hammered though. Prices rivalling the best hotels in Calgary! Prices are up for Fridays and Saturday night even more than week day nights. Christmas rates I expect are through the roof. She asked if we wanted to know and my buddy said not interested at all if they are even higher. They told him they were booked 100% capacity all summer and best summer ever. Why not celebrate and raise prices then? Right?

What are the best motels to stay at Golden? Safety for sleds and tow units are a huge consideration when answering. Thanks!

Stayed there years ago and also at the Rondo Dan. We don't need fancy just clean and a hot tub you can take a rum in with you. HaHa!

In them hills.
Called days inn and best western to set up this winters trips in advance, was blown away how much prices have risen over last year..

days inn was 119 last year, this year 160, best western last year was 129, this year is 175.. They want twenty nights prepaid in advance to get these rates on a single room. No more sledding rates..

Prices like that that make a guy look around or find alternate places to ride.. Kalispel Montana is much cheaper to ride in all aspects..

maybe one or a group of guys should be looking for a house rent/ duplex for the winter.. If I had a spot for the fifth wheel it could work

any ideas from others??
With the CAD $ way down the secret is out among the Yanks. Skiers and sledders alike.

C'mon Fred. Ya got 100k in sleds but worrying about an extra $40 bones to rest the old muscles? This is an attempt at sarcasm and humor but don't get offended. I hate gettin gouged at hotels also.

It is funny, every year some guy with all the pimped toys whines about gas or hotel costs.
Tourism is way up in BC this summer and from what I hear winter bookings are way ahead of normal.

We usually stay at rondo. Good parking, and a short walk to downtown. Mary's is a hole, well at least it was 10 years ago. The Days inn is ok, but the restaurant sucks.

Still same owners ? Aaron and Linda if I remember? They still have a hot tub? Was a pretty good resteraunt across the alley named Katrina's when we used to ride there.

The guy who owns it now I believe is Toby. It has been a couple of years since I was there. There is an awesome restaurant at the bridge that crosses the kicking horse, called The Island. They still do have the hot tub.

This goes along the same lines as is the sport getting two expensive. That's a sharp increase in hotel rates.
