My rental that took out pistons was a 2009. We are actually looking at stocking a 800R short block this winter. If we had one on hand last winter there would've been several guys we could've helped out to keep riding. Just have to decide if it's gonna be the '08 or the '09 shortblock.

See and thats the funny partr of it i knew lots of guys that didn't have any issues really with there '07's they got 4000+ km out of them. But the biggest thing is i'm hoping that both the etec and the poo pro prove this winter that they handle large km's so then i can feel fairly confident bringing them on as rentals again.

just because its an 09 doesnt mean its some mystical creature that wont explode....

I understand that but with it being a rental unit it needs to be able to get thru a couple seasons in my opinion without having to be torn down and rebuilt. It is totally different in my opinion with them being rental units versus personal use because when you spend 13grand or so on a sled to have a rental if a motor goes down or anything like that every weekend that you miss out on rentals that's money out of pocket over and above the repair costs. Where as if it's personal yah it sucks if you miss a weekend trip you had planned but it usually doesn't costy you extra out of pocket unless it involves a hel ride or such. So thats why i look at it froma business stand point in regards to rentals and such. But like i said personal vs rental two different beasts.

Holy lots of brp guys have some white stuff on the chinny chin chin LMFAO. You guys must me able to take it dry to or do you at least spit on it for each other. Wait till this year when the o so famous etec starts to get say around 3000kms on them. Lots might change there tune. OH wait they will all have new top ends. Why doesnt brp just make a shortblock etec as you guys are going to need a crank anyways when u replace the pistions on the recall.

Like how some of you guys say YEEEEEEAAAAPPPP put on 2500miles never had a problem lol yes because you sold it right after and left it for the next guy to put a short block in it.

been there done that work on them they arent that great.

oh ya just my 2 cents

If anyone owns a Doo that makes it to 5000 km without any engine issues, buy lottery tickets. Buy lots and lots !!

It made 5000km and twisted the crank at 5059km

Needed a new small block at Mots for $3000.00

New 2007 Summit $14,000.00
Extra Parts, covers, cans, bags $2,000.00
New short block $3,000.00
Total sled cost $19,000.00 over 5000km
Sale price $6,000.00

Cost to ride for 4 years = $13,000.00 or $3,250.00 per year in sled depreciation/repairs.

Doos are great machines but the engines suck

i dont buy brp stuff and talk about brp stuff on this website just for the fun of it. although it is entertaining.

the fact is they make the best product out of the box for mountain riding ( in my experience )

yes others will have bad experiences ( like you obviously ) and thats how you take your stance and this is how i take mine. from many years of successful funfilled seasons on my brp products with minimal issues.

i buy the best out of the box product in terms of reliability, power, throttle response, climbing ability, handling, weight. etc.

i wouldnt be buying brp product if i had to sacrifice any one of those items. so far i havent. if i did then we wouldnt be talking about this because i would be riding a polaris or a cat. but they just arent at the next level yet. ( maybe this year )

if my riding group was blowing 800r motors left right and center it wouldnt be worth it to keep riding them. just because its a better sled performance wise if it doesnt stand up it means nothing.

when i start seeing serious reliability issues with brp 800r motors i would switch. no questions asked. but you have to realize where i am coming from. just because i havent seen a high percentage of failures doesnt mean it isnt happening. so your points are all valid about failures on the 800r. i dont turn a blind eye to that. it just hasnt been my personal experience. now if i was in your position with a minefield full of grenading 800r motors i would be looking towards the other team also.

again i would like to remind you that brp moves more product in a season than any other brand. so if they all fail at the same rate your going to hear more brp issues. again i dont think the 800r is ANY MORE reliable than the next brand. i just beleive you hear about it more simpply because of the sales #s.

the day i see a cat or a polaris in factory form blow by me on the hill with a sled that i feel comfortable riding i will be on one the next season.

this site rags on me for being brand biased. well...i ride what works. period. at this stage of the game that happens to be BRP.

i welcome you to come for a ride with us and show me what your pro rmk or m8 has for 2012. im not afraid to be beat on the hill and humiliated on this site. just hasnt happened yet...shouldnt say that. theres a few photos floating around im not proud of LOOOL.

btw. brp is not perfect. theres many things they can improve on with the xp. a floating secondary and better running boards would be the first thing i would change.

let it snow..run that ya brung...there all fun.

fixing a crank twist is a simple job for TOM. about 600 bucks. not sure why you bought a shortblock? and we ALL KNOW the 2007/ early 2008 sleds were problematic for the 800r. as one would guess being the first year. no brp lover can deny the happenings in that season.

Maxwell not just using my own experience here. ALOT of times it is customer abuse Not warming up, not using good fuel etc, these are things that can't be blamed on the manufacturer. but alot of times it is bottom ends usually around the 2500mile mark. It seems to be a mix around here as the ones that blow up are both mountian sleds and flatland sleds. I guess you must have all sleds that were built in the middle of the week.
Good luck with your brp product in the future.

Guys are trading them every 2 years because BRP makes changes to their lineup more than the other manufacturers and they want the new trick stuff. How do you like those apples Warhawk? Lol.

Based on his flagrant promotion of BRP products I would guess one of the pictures has T Team on his knees in a dark room.
