Ok what your saying makes since. If I was a sled company I'd wanna approve good oil for me to put my name on and my sleds to run on. But also alot of manufactures put their name on an aftermarket out, that being said that BRP oil or Polaris oil is not actually their own. Polaris used the lowest bidder of aftermarket oil to put their name on that's why I don't run it.

that may well be true. however just because someone came in with a low cost doesnt mean it doesnt have the proper ingredients to protect the engine as set out by the manufacturer.

I have heard it alot from many different sources! What glen is saying is 100% correct. If brp or any other manufacturer were to ever ask to have the parts shipped back, Or im not 100% sure... But I do beleive they call back certian warranty claims at the end of the year... And from what I have heard they can easily tell what kind of oil... or at the very least... what oil was NOT used. It would be a dealer sticking thier neck out for someone that wanted to save money on oil. It would really be up to the discretion of the dealer or shop working on it weather they wanted to warranty an engine or not. I have NOT heard anything good about amsoil from any reputable techs or reps. Keep in mind when these motors get run up... tested... and abused on the stand in front of the R&D guys they have XPS oil in them... NOT amsoil or any other rotella garbage. They were tried and tested with the oil that they market as being the BEST for that particular machine.

warranty claims experts at any of the manufactueres can easily tell what oil the sled was using, and other modifications such as jetting and nitrous they show up very easily on a piston.

Can't believe a MAXWELL!! thread about brp pistons got hijacked and turned into another oil thread:nono:

Well your missing the point tho. There are some people out there that i think should've learned alot from this thread going towards the oil end of things. Because i think that there are a percentage of the failures that are occuring on these motors that very well could be attributed to crappy oil. So it wasn't really a thread hyjack as much as a information section of the thread for some..

It is hard to understand why some people use an inferior oil to save a couple of dollars. I have seen people use a marine type oil
or an oil not rated for any new standards and then complain when their engine fails. Maybe it is time to list the new oil standards if
someone has them handy??

Best post I've read in a while. Straight up stellar, and I'll tke ya up on that offer. Gotta see what all the fuss is about. Cheers:beer:
i dont buy brp stuff and talk about brp stuff on this website just for the fun of it. although it is entertaining.

the fact is they make the best product out of the box for mountain riding ( in my experience )

yes others will have bad experiences ( like you obviously ) and thats how you take your stance and this is how i take mine. from many years of successful funfilled seasons on my brp products with minimal issues.

i buy the best out of the box product in terms of reliability, power, throttle response, climbing ability, handling, weight. etc.

i wouldnt be buying brp product if i had to sacrifice any one of those items. so far i havent. if i did then we wouldnt be talking about this because i would be riding a polaris or a cat. but they just arent at the next level yet. ( maybe this year )

if my riding group was blowing 800r motors left right and center it wouldnt be worth it to keep riding them. just because its a better sled performance wise if it doesnt stand up it means nothing.

when i start seeing serious reliability issues with brp 800r motors i would switch. no questions asked. but you have to realize where i am coming from. just because i havent seen a high percentage of failures doesnt mean it isnt happening. so your points are all valid about failures on the 800r. i dont turn a blind eye to that. it just hasnt been my personal experience. now if i was in your position with a minefield full of grenading 800r motors i would be looking towards the other team also.

again i would like to remind you that brp moves more product in a season than any other brand. so if they all fail at the same rate your going to hear more brp issues. again i dont think the 800r is ANY MORE reliable than the next brand. i just beleive you hear about it more simpply because of the sales #s.

the day i see a cat or a polaris in factory form blow by me on the hill with a sled that i feel comfortable riding i will be on one the next season.

this site rags on me for being brand biased. well...i ride what works. period. at this stage of the game that happens to be BRP.

i welcome you to come for a ride with us and show me what your pro rmk or m8 has for 2012. im not afraid to be beat on the hill and humiliated on this site. just hasnt happened yet...shouldnt say that. theres a few photos floating around im not proud of LOOOL.

btw. brp is not perfect. theres many things they can improve on with the xp. a floating secondary and better running boards would be the first thing i would change.

let it snow..run that ya brung...there all fun.

That would be the Pro I assume ?

No you don't buy the best unless you've switched brands.

Every day i see a cat or a polaris in factory form blow by me on the hill

You must be used to it by now.

this site rags on me for being brand biased. well...i ride what works. period. .

But why not ride something that not only works, but works well ?? It will require that you change brands though.

Maxwell not just using my own experience here. ALOT of times it is customer abuse Not warming up, not using good fuel etc, these are things that can't be blamed on the manufacturer. but alot of times it is bottom ends usually around the 2500mile mark. It seems to be a mix around here as the ones that blow up are both mountian sleds and flatland sleds. I guess you must have all sleds that were built in the middle of the week.
Good luck with your brp product in the future.

now warhawk, i for one had an 08 with 5,500km on it. i also rode with ya, the 08 xp outclimbed ya by a very conservative 150 to 300 ft higher as in run out of mountain, with me or my young lad riding, it was his second time, i recall you were on a kitty, you want to try it on yer polaris, you seem to blame everything on the rental xp you bought, it may not have been looked after as well, anyway i'll still give ya a go uphill or on the flats.

Well read this whole thread and and it is pretty easy to tell what brand everyone rides. Did learn that i need to do my top end. And change my brand of oil.

I've never denied an XP might take the highmark, but what I get a laugh out of is how many more calories an XP rider burns trying to keep up to a Cat or Poo in the trees. Ya, they can do it, but why exert that much energy when there are better options available ??
