It has twin pipes, and they do not connect anywhere. The oil jug is still there, empty; you're saying just keep it at least half full?

Its not terribly pretty, but its not beat or a piece of junk, just not perfect, has about 5100 k and to my knowledge it has not been rebuilt.

again thanks for the info

I also just compression tested it and it was 121 per side

2 things came to mind listening to that bog. Pilot jets are too big and clutch springs are shot. I would check the pilot jet size and probably go down at least a half size. Just regular maintenance to change those clutch springs anyway when you take them apart to clean them. I also have trailing arms from 2000 to 2002. Im not sure if they would fit your sled or not. If you are down Hinton way-Ill give them to you.

I will look into all of the info I've gotten so far, ripping it apart on friday and over the weekend. The trailing arms would be appreciated! Do you ever come down towards gp?

Compression is fine then, was this hot or cold test? Twin pipes are good, hurt these motors on the bottom end with torque a tiny bit but not what's causing your bog. Knowing that it has twin pipes helps, your EGT's should be within 50 degrees of one another otherwise you should consider staggering the jetting. Next time you have it out, run it for a while (15-20 seconds) at the spot where it bogs, hit the kill switch with the throttle held in position, and coast to a stop, then check the plugs. This will tell you if its lean or rich in that spot for jetting and you can adjust accordingly. Make a few passes first and watch your EGTs though, they should start stabilizing after a few seconds, if they keep climbing after a few seconds of steady throttle where it bogs, then its likely lean and you can go bigger to tune it out. If they are the stock pilots then it shouldn't be rich, still leaning towards clutching possibly. Clean those clutches before doing a plug reading and see if that helps first.

For the oil tank- there should be 1 line that comes out of the side of the tank and goes to the top barbed fitting and 1 that comes out of the side of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting (if I remember right - its the bottom or the side of the tank - pretty sure its the side). So long as the hose that goes to the bottom fitting on the motor has oil in it, then its OK. If not, then put some in the tank so that it goes down the hose. You want to fill the hose up enough until you see it come out the top hose (assuming you can see it through the hose). If you don't want to mess around with taking all the oil injection stuff off, then just keep enough oil in the tank so that it can go down the line.

Alternatively, you can scrap the oil injection system. You will need to get a shorty RV cover from Split Second or CrankShop and connect the two barbs with a hose and then just fill up the hose every now and then (and get rid of the oil pump, tank, lines, extra weight etc.) I pulled out my old pics and I attached one, the hose is a closed loop from the bottom to the top, about 3 times a season I would take it off the top barb and fill it about 2/3 of the way up the rotary valve cover (shiny part with writing on it in my pic). Don't overfill the hose when you have it off or it will come out the top barb and then you'll have a mess - been there, done that. Only needs 2/3 of the way up the RV cover.

Gosh that's informative! Thank you!

I will get it out this weekend. But first I will put fresh plugs in, clean the clutches, air filters (it has two k&n's), put the oil in, and spray some carb cleaner in the carbs, hoping that it could just be some dirt. if all else fails I will do the plug reading and go from there.

Thanks for all the info again

Trade the twin pipes for a stock 99 pipe, you will probably be happier. Leave the rotary valve alone on the X. Gear it down, slip a 151 under it and ditch the secondary for a cat roller.

Ditch the twins, go back to the stock centre dump, best place to start. Adjustable pins and a purple/purple primary spring is also a good place to start.

Just need to find a sled wrecker near GP or someone with 670 parts

Call up Snowmobile Heaven in Rimbey if you can't find anything local. He may have what you need and then perhaps you could get it Greyhounded up to you.

Maybe even the Sled Parlor but he's further south and kind of a grouchy bugger.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have never had much luck with sled parlor, but ya never know! I'd like to find a complete sled, and just strip it, take everything I need, that would be ideal
