Re: Wakey Wakey

Ummm---- NOT

I think the people who dug him out does though...

From what I have read is that he poked at an unstable slope, caused 2 small 10x10 meter avy's, and then proceeded to push his luck and climbed to the crown, which failed and buried him....
Sure he is a good person to tell all about his experience, but I have been told he has been buried before, and should have learned the first time.

If what I read and heard is true, perhaps we do need regulations, like a CLOSURE if it is Considerable or higher, or a prerequisite of at least an ast-1 to venture into the backcountry at any time... Is that what everyone wants? ....because this WILL happen. It's VERY real kids..:(
Well if your approach wasnt finger pointing and on the attack I would give you my phone # to tell you more, but we all know how that would turn out "I HEARD THAT", and the problem with that is you heard that he was buried before and should have learned, well we were buried in 2001 on a hill we werent even on, and we did learn, a hill you r not even on can also slide, thats what we learned,(well we kind of new that but never saw it), did you know that, if not there you go, you are learning. Now whether or whether not it was a bad decision based on being a little to comfortable in your own back yard, we can discuss that forever, and that is why I am going to open a thread called crusify and point fingers at matt for getting buried and this thread can go back to the snow conditions in mcbride

Not really... But I will play along:

So, if all of this is in the name of 'learning', what did you learn that you can state constructively, without coming off so harsh?!?

let me see---40+ degree of slope, and avy rating at HIGH, tons of new snow---stay off this slope. that is just common sense.

Re: Wakey Wakey

Good idea Hughie, Maxwell head over to that thread if you want to continue on with discussion. Talked to Hotrod last night and temps have warmed up to above freezing and some rain came thru softening up the trail on the lower part, he was down in Valemount getting parts and it was raining there to so both areas got some. BUT reports were white out conditions uptop at Renshaw, and with no one getting far last weekend there will be tons of untouched up top. Higgins.

Soooooooooo............ What is the latest snow conditions up mcbride way??

Our firefighters have had two great days of sledding so far. Belle and Lucille. TONS of deep snow, lots of stucks, but trails going up a bit soft. This should improve as the temps drop tonight and through the weekend. Snowing right now - will see how much - one forecast said 25 to 35 cm snow on Friday.

Avy risk has been lowered to Considerable, but you are definitely safe in the meadows and trees. Stay off the hillclimbs, guys.

With the snow we are supposed to get, check the road reports before you leave for your trip. Tends to get messy around Mount Robson for sure. Lots of deer out there to watch out for too.

Before we got all this snow, guys had been back there. The boys tried last weekend but the snow was too deep (and these are expert riders). With the mild weather this week, the snow has settled and you may get in. Worth a try, anyways.

Well Renshaw Trail is scheduled to be groomed again this evening(Friday) for Saturday morning, It is supposed to be nice weather so I hope it comes true! It seems you just have to go see the hill to see what the weather is doing!

The avalanche has been lowered to considerable but I am telling EVERYONE, to please still consider it HIGH! We have had a lot of snow and some crazy weather, please RIDE SAFE! We all want to see EVERYONE come home! :d

Another good day up renshaw. Blue sky all day and good snow. Saw 2 large avis come down, luckily nobody was buried. Big one at saddle started going up opposite slope. Both avis could have been avoided and were triggered:nono:As they were from the same crew

Rode Renshaw Friday. stayed in the ant hills and blackwater meadows all day. went in on 27 behind hotrod and his group, that was a work out. 2 slides, one off the anthills side and one down onto the meadows off the slope on the east side. the one off the anthills was a size 4 avy taking 8-10 inch trees with it and running across the anthills down through the trees right to the blackwater meadows, massive slide. snow was great to play in but you had to think about where to ride to be safe. sunny for the next couple of days i will be going up to take some pic's for the CAA and will post, the pic's I took on Friday did not turn out as it was snowing to much and I didn't want to get any closer with the lack of vis and not being able to see above.
Lucille yesterday for a SAR course and hill climb sledder knocked another avy loose and came back to the cabin covered in snow, lucky to have made it through that one. this one was the slope beside the rollercoaster.
please be careful out there, in my opinion the risk is still high even if it is reported as considerable.
