that guy burried in lucile on saturday sure was lucky the avy courrse was going on that day and the instructors were able to dig him out :nono:
not pickin on your post maxwell, details get lost in translation sometimes so just want to clear up that it probably took me close to 10 minutes to get to where the course was being taught, grab some help and get back, and that was the longest ten minutes of my life probably, and all the way there and back you are just thinking hopefully they will have him out by the time you get back, and that was almost the case. The group had him located exposed and well on his way to being out of there, so just wanted to make sure the guys who were on the end of those shovels solid till he was located and out of there didnt lose an ounce of recognition they deserve. Thanks to EVERYONE that helped get Matt out alive so we can ride another day

Wow....I'm glad the peeps at the avy course were able to help dig that guy out....what a wake up call for everyone involved. I couldn't help but notice the pics of the sleds on the field day. HOLY SHIZ!! I guess we can call ourselves lucky....last January when we took our field training with Zac's at Lucille there was only 6 of us!!

Learned a ton, and got lots of hands on experience, and lots of rescue scenarios with the beacons. Come to think of it, we easily could have been called into rescue too. As we were taking our course we watched 3 or 4 sleds go one after another to touch an overhanging cornice.....we were all discussing amongst ourselves "what NOT to do when in the mountains." :nono:

If you guys were in lucille in the first big bowl area there is a huge cornice that usually forms in there and there are alot of people that climb right up under neath that one but i also know that that one doesn't usually move or come down at all until june. Because it is massively thick. Not sayin it's a good thing to do just that that one is usually very stable.

Let's get that avalanche video up on here so people can see the consequences of what can happen when you push your luck

What's the matter with yah? I seen the vid on a friends facebook as well.
I'm sure there are lots on here just waiting to point fingers, but i also seen people climbing hills the very next day.
Just glad he was ok and that the rescuers were not injured in the process of searching for him.
This thread is about the conditions and not about a avy video. Please keep this thread on track.

its not. if he wants to post it im sure he will. not really my business i dont think

No problem. It can be a learning opportunity. Usually becomes a finger pointing derby.

BIG CUDOS to the guys that found him and dug him out!!! Glad he is alive to tell his story.

Totally agree caper!! There would actually be nothing gained from people watching it because it would just become a huge finger poitin deal and alot of peeps callin names and such. And also this thread is supposed to be for jan conditions and updates.

I had a bunch of rental sleds up renshaw and they said that the snow was still really good.
