your right although avalanches are a real part of the conditions IMO

I absolutely agree that they are but there is also a thread section for avalanche stuff. And i'd hate to see it get into a big finger point name callin deal.

The vid can be posted in the Avalanche section too as far as I am concerned.

Glen, there are so many people out there that don't get it///

Perhaps a vid of what not to do would enlighten some. Blaine's vid has the most impact in recent history.

I heard he pulled a J.A. maneuver. (still highmarking after triggering previous slides on the same slope) Something that shouldn't be done EVER.

Also heard that it wasn't his first burial either.

We can hide the black eye with large sunglasses and pretend it is all sugar coated and lollipops, or look at it and take that page of the book and learn something from it.

More info hopefully in The Avy section.

+3 and raining in town today. Looks like snow up top. With the mild weather we are having this week, alot of the snow up there will have settled. Should make for decent sledding this weekend. We have some Edmonton Firefighters up Belle today so we should get a first hand report on conditions up there.

Gotta hand it to Matt for giving the AST1 Class the first hand benefit of his experience that day. Not many guys would be willling to do that.

I agree with jude, The part of the zac's course that impacted me the most was the guest speakers who described there experience. There are things that you have to deal with in these situations that you dont even think about. Some of you may diagree with me but i think the more prepared you are the better off you will be. IMO. :d:d

Once again I have to disagree with your post, after something like that all a guy would want to do is go down and hug your wife and kids I'm thinking, which is pretty much what he did right after stopping by the course to talk about it with you guys, so I'd say that deserves a hand

Ummm---- NOT

I think the people who dug him out does though...

From what I have read is that he poked at an unstable slope, caused 2 small 10x10 meter avy's, and then proceeded to push his luck and climbed to the crown, which failed and buried him....
Sure he is a good person to tell all about his experience, but I have been told he has been buried before, and should have learned the first time.

If what I read and heard is true, perhaps we do need regulations, like a CLOSURE if it is Considerable or higher, or a prerequisite of at least an ast-1 to venture into the backcountry at any time... Is that what everyone wants? ....because this WILL happen. It's VERY real kids..:(

Why are you so hell bent on crucifying and pointing out all this guy's mistakes on a public forum? You know this guy and have a bone to pick? Or, are you just another throat-jumping, over opinionated, uncompassionate keyboard jockey who gets his fun by 'yelling' louder than all the other idiots on this forum?

Just trying to pinpoint your agenda...

Because you can learn from this. If the info saves a life, is that not worth it???

I was not throat jumping, or opinionating, look at my post.

You can sugar coat something, but it is in the end, still just coated with sugar....MAMA

Well, I've seen you mention this a few times in a couple threads and looking for details/vids etc., Seems like a bit of a manhunt from where I'm sitting.

Why not ask the avalanche course attendees what they learned from the experience and the talk afterwards vs. posting details that you 'heard'... Details that may or may not be true?? Seems a better way to learn than via rumor-mongering ...

I did. and they told me this, plus they know this person too.

Does this satisfy your accusations of mongering?

Not really... But I will play along:

So, if all of this is in the name of 'learning', what did you learn that you can state constructively, without coming off so harsh?!?

I have done my share of learning, and perhaps others can also take the necessary steps to also learn, there are some who never learn unfortunately.

Sent you a pm..

According to the CAC McBride falls under North Rockies. There is not alot of information for North Rockies North Rockies - BC : Latest Bulletins : Bulletins : Canadian Avalanche Centre : avalanche.ca like there is for Valemount, North Columbia North Columbia : Latest Bulletins : Bulletins : Canadian Avalanche Centre : avalanche.ca

I look at North Columbia, and North rockies, and also rely on what people say on here. Look at local observations from people that are riding in the area. So it is good people discuss avalanche conditions, that keeps the awareness up.

Some info on the avy from the CAC

Date 2011-01-22Location N Cariboos, Mt LucilleLocation DescriptionNear McBride B.CProvinceBCMountain RangeCariboo Mtn RangeCoordinates53.2461 120.222 Lat/Long Decimal DegreesElevation1970mActivitySnowmobilingInvolvement1Injury

DescriptionSnowmobiler involved took two previous highmarks on slope 20m to the west of the avalanche area each highmark as he turned around he realeased two localized 10m x 10m slabs that failed on basal facets on ground. On the third highmark as he reach the convexity of the ridge line he triggered the slab. The slab carried him down roughly 45m to his burial of roughly 150cm. I showed up on scene around 10 mins of avalanche as I got off my sled and was almost to burial site the group had shovelled to him. As I pulled out my first aid kit and down jacket I delegated some tasks including shoveling out the pit (less "cone" like in case of further injuries) and for people not to stand upill of hole and sent two people to leave area to standby. (very little hangfire) As I got in the hole to him and helped clear his head and chest. He was breathing VERY faintely and had a slow pulse. after about a minute of the face and chest cleared off he regained conciousness and was alert with no further injuries.

There seems to be getting to be a lot of that on this site. It used to be more an informative, friendly gabfest, but the last year there is a lot of finger pointing and people trying to tell everyone else to do "as they do". Too bad.
