ITP cryptids tire review.

So with a few rides on the new tires , I feel I have enough info to post a few thoughts about the new ITP cryptid tires on my Maverick.These tires are brand new to Canada , And I believe this to be one of the first sets out working....

The tires(mine) are 30/10 x14 s and with 9 lbs measure about 29.5 inchs tall, mounted on the machines own weight. So a tad short ,but not enough to matter really. They are a 6 ply with a sturdy rim guard as well.

They weigh in at around 41 lbs , ITP claim 43 ....??
Anyways for an aggressive mud / trail tire they are a very reasonable weight, compared to a outback max / terminator and other comparable type tires.

The ride: smooth , very smooth ! Just about no noticeable wobble at low speeds and stay that way as you speed up . I wanted a tire that rode smooth and still performed in the mud / rough going. This seems to do it all...

The mud : they pull very very well. Clean out great and seem to have correct balance ii terms of chewing , without digging a hole to China ...in skeg , wet and hard pack I was really amazed. Side hills were great in the slime as well...keep in mind they are not a pure mud specific tire, though they certainly hold there own.

The trail: Again a nice balance o smoothness and flex to bite well in all conditions . Looks like a softer combo of rubber and breaks in the tread allow the tire to flex in the rocky , hard pack as well. Real good in this area but remember this is not a all terrain ( bighorn) type of tire... So again , very satisfied with its ability, all things considered.

Tire life : who know ?? Softer rubber and a deep ( 1 1/2 to 2 inch tread) tells me not to expect super long life , but that remains to be seen ...
after some ( a lot) high speed roosting with the Mav , no obvious signs of early tread wear or rips ...
Time will tell!
All in all , for my type of riding could not be more pleased! Seems like a great tire , well priced, and a nice combo of mud & trail capabilities, with a smooth ride...

I would highly recommend them !

Never used to like the ITP tires , but they have stepped up a lot lately.

ITP are true religious tires- " Holy Sidewalls" - Batman!.


thin sidewalls, that split where tread meets sidewall, for ever known as plug lites!

hopefully they have stepped up there game as you say.

worked well out on the trail, tread like the terminator style, priced way less, I'd like to see some more feed back.

Very nice looking tire and it sounds like they perform as expected. The reputation of weak side walls on ITP tires is what led me to go with the pitbull growlers this year. I also wanted to stick with the stock tire size and width as I didn't want to do any clutch work at this point. The tread pattern is similar and I have been more than happy with them so far. These new cryptids are supposed to have a much tougher wall than some of the older style of ITP tires and with the rim guard they should hold up well in all conditions. Nice upgrade for sure! Let us know how they hold up at the end of the summer.

A lot of people have dealt with a lot of flats with ITP tires. Maybe they have improved, I am not willing to take the chance anymore that they have.

While I could not agree more about the older ITP tire ( mud lights !) these are a much heavier duty tire , with a lot of sidewall strength . If maxxis made a tire like this I would be all over it... But they have stopped any tire innovation years ago......

I think they realized they had to step up their game in the mud tire market if they wanted to stay competitive. And since our machines are built to do so much more than just play in the mud we want that smooth ride on hard pack and great control when flying down trails. This is especially true in the SxS market with the machines getting bigger and heavier. The only thing keeping me from trying these out was that they only come in 30"+ sizes.

Be interesting to see how they make out over the long term, From what i saw, they looked good, rode smooth, where reasonable in cost, And no stuckage.

I never had issues with the two pairs of mud lights I owned. The last set were 30's and were too tall for my grizzly. The fit ok but it was really sketchy on off camber stuff.

I had no issue with a set of mudlights or a set of xtr's, on a quad, sold them before i did. I put a set of xtrs on the ranger, sidewall splits and holes, all where tread met the sidewall. Presently running monster mayhems, Mega side wall holes, Right were tread meets sidewalls. Weak sidewalls!
Neville has good review on cryptids, like to see some real world experience on tires. Price is good, like the tread pattern, still like to see thoughts after a few months of hard driving!

Good for ITP to design a mud tire but they should not have put the groove in the outside lugs. The groove in the outside lugs makes these similar to the Terminators. The lugs get torn apart and shortens life of the tire.

Mud lights are good on quads but not sxs's, not tough enough. My mega mayhems are good been on my machine for 2 summers and never even had to add air yet. Glad to see these tires are doing good!
