Hello all. I ride a 2009 M8 153 and i love it. But i need some help. I had a SLP stinger on it and i am looking for a new sound, some weight loss and maybe a gain of a hp or 5. I was thinking D&D with a y pipe down the road. Please send advise and opinions please. i have to make a decision or im going to go crazy wondering what to do. Thank you.

Keep it as quiet as you can. Save your ears and others as well as riding areas. YOU ASKED

i think most sound the same. and you will never gain 5hp from a stinger/can/muffler really.. this is a very hard decision.. try running MBRP, thos seem to have a nice sound to them.. my buddy had the d&d and i dono sounded good.. like any two stoke really..

thats a hard one to say.

I run d&d on both my m1000 and firecat 700. I like the sound but they are very loud as I have the barker model Wich is the loudest. I have buddies that run the jaws can on their m8s and they sound really good as well.

Almost everyone one I know that has HAD the MBRP has had them break apart where the pipe enters the canister, absolute crap IMO.Buy a Speedwerxs can or their tunnel dump can, they are built specificly just for Cats.

I still remember back in the 90's, my riding buddy had a triple piped 650 Polaris. All 3 pipes straight out through the belly pan. Yikes!

lets get one thing straight here boys. I wish that I still had the article performance pipes, so that i could post it here for everyone to read, but I don't so here is the readers digest version. Stingers are not something that you can change that easily. everyone refers to the can as a stinger. Wrong. the stinger is actually a part of the pipe, It is internal to the pipe and cannot be changed unless you cut the pipe open. The stinger length is an engineered length to maximize the HP output of the engine. Typically a longer stinger length creates a quieter pipe. a shorter stinger length a louder pipe. There is a lot of physics that goes into determining the optimum stinger length. It all has to do with how the exhaust shock wave is rebounded to the cylinder and how much shock wave is rebounded. the shape of the pipe the volume of the pipe and the stinger length are all factors that determine how a pipe will perform. The can plays a part of the equation as well, as it is the part of the exhaust system that provides the necessary back pressure for the pipe to perform as it was intended.

I just wish that I had the article that I read. there is a more that goes into designing a performance exhaust system than just bolting on a can. As stated by sledslut a can alone will not gain you 5 HP. If the can changes the back pressure of the engineered exhaust system you may actually loose HP.

there you have it in a nutshell.

Now you all know why my handle is Pipes.

MBRP, JAWS OR THE THING, no problems with any of them. You have to try it for yourself and not keep listening to suggestions or you will never get one. :d:d:d
